Shimano reels made for the Japanese markets are fantastic.  I know the Biomaster is made in Japan not Malayasia and the quality is terrific.

I have a feeling this will be my first JDM reel.

Wait until you see the price tag.

Price is in the Japan Tackle link.  $389.   :-[

Look for it on eBay.  Got my Anteras DC a.k.a the Calais DC here in the U.S.A. for $300.00.  All of the Calais DC's were going for $150.00 more.  Same real just a different name.

I really liked that Fireblood real that Shimano came out with. However, the ridiculous name and price kept the monkey away.

Burley,

Bantam1 hinted that I needed to wait for Icast...  and I was looking for a 50MG replacement...  Perhaps there going to be a domestic version to be unveiled at the show.  ?

Save your pennies, bro, you can always circle back to this one!

Does it resemble a Pflueger to anyone else?

I think it looks dang sexy but I'm not paying that much for a reel.

No...it looks like a TD-Z.

Anyway; I have no doubt this reel will be coming to the U.S.  It is the Mg50 Replacement, or a 'Core 50'.  The problem is....ICAST is a looong ways away!  Shimano also better leave it alone for the U.S. market....I swear, if it comes over here and the paint is silver with a gold spool....I'll @#%^&**!

I got a simple question, what difference does it make what color the spool is?  You can't see it anyway once you have it filled with line.

Most people don't put as much line on a spool as you do.

After casting you can see the side which simply accents the beauty

of the reel. I have "Smoke" spooled up on my Core which contrasts

nicely with the red spool, gunmetal gray casing and dark blue/black

rod.

It makes all the difference in the world.

You can't see it anyway once you have it filled with line.

That doesn 't matter, you know that underneath the line the spool is the color you want it to be.

Then they're not getting the full benefit of the reel. I fill mine to 1/8" from the rim.

If your looking at how purdy your spool and line is while your fishing then that is the least of your problems.

If I had that reel, I'd have to buy a matching pair of shoes and belt.  ;D

It does look like a TD-Z, but who cares.  Great to see Shimano's new designs.  So far everything looks lean and mean.  And light, which is great news to Shimano buyers.

Closer to 1/16-1/32.

A color anodized spool just looks nicer.  Even with line on your spool, you still see the edges of the spool, which highlights the reel similar to what winding checks do to a rod.  Most spools are anodized, so why not anodize it a cool color?  Gold is so 2001  8-)

It's kind of scary when spool color out weighs how the reel performs.

who said it does?
