I am looking at buying a new drop shot rod and wondered if you guys had any suggestions.  I have numerous G-Loomis rods and was looking at their drop shot rods at Bass Pro.  I thought I would check out other suggestions before I get one.

Thanks.

I use a 6'8" M XF Avid Spinning rod for dropshot fishing.

Are you looking for a spinning or bait casting rod?

I like anything about 7 feet long with an extra fast tip on it.

I'm a big fan of falcon rods and they make a couple for weightless worms that would do the trick.

I have the shimano curcial dropshot rod, nice rod for the money.

Why not stick with Loomis. I just picked up the new GLX dropshot rod. I havent got a chance to use it yet other than in the pool. But tackle tour reviewed this rod favorably. Super light.

I love mine.  It's probably one of my favorite rods I own.  I picked up the 7'2" M.  It's pretty good for 1/4oz jigs and shakey heads as well.  For $120 it's a good deal with a split grip and a lifetime warranty as well.

Casting or Spinning rod?

It might be hard to find in your area, but the Lamiglas Certified Pro Drop Shot Special I or II.

It is a spinning rod. Lamiglas is probably among the most underrated rods out there. Give it a shot, or a drop shot. ;D

If you like G. Loomis, DSR820S is the only dropshot rod out there, IMHO. I have the GLX version and it's my favorite spinning rod period.

My vote would definitely be for the Crucial.  I have a 6'8" MH (very light tip though) and love it!  It also doubles as a great cranking rod for a #5 shad rap.

Another vote for the shimano crucial dropshot rod.  I have the 6'8 M XF spinning rod it is my favorite rod.  I use it for almost all soft plastics from DS to Tubes and weightless worms.

I think I may be in the minority when it comes to this, reenforced by the fact that many rod mfg's. list 6'8" or 6'9" rods with XF actions as there drop shot rods. But I like a long rod for drop shoting, preferbly with a little "tip" to it. My drop shot rod is a 7' ML power, fast action St Croix Avid. The extra length and little bit of softness to the rod  IMHO is critical when using light line (I use 6lb fluro) and small hooks. I also feel that the softer tip is key in keeping the weight on the bottom, when I lift the weight up off the bottom I know it, and want to keep it on the bottom. The extra legth also has adavantages in moving more line in deep water, and/or on long drifts when I am "dragging" the rig over a rock pile, hump, etc.etc...... I by no means have tested/tried dozens of different rods for drop shoting, just a few, so what I like might not be the norm, but what I am using works exceptionaly well for me, and I wouldn't change it.

I have one brand new for sale, if that's the route you want to go.  :)

I have a few drop shot rods and have used a whole lot of them.  I think the G Loomis GLX is a gold standard and a great rod.  The Gary Yamamoto Drop Shot rod is  another great rod and really a good deal at $150 retail.  I was impressed with the Shimano Crucial as well especially for the money.

I now use a custom built CTS drop shot rod and a custom built Ranishadow drop shot rod, and they both blow away all other retail drop shot rods (especially the CTS).

10-4. I have the same stick, and I use it just the same. It's perfect for throwing that little #5 SR. Nice to have a rod you can use for more than one application.

I own around 6 Crucials, and they are the best value out there IMHO.
