sharkman Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 so whats the deal with these rods? i am interested in buying the Daiwa TL-74T-5FB Frogging Rod and am wondering what they mean when the say its telescopic? does it lose sensitivity ? Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 24, 2009 Super User Posted January 24, 2009 In many telescoping rods the telescoping part is the butt end of the rod. Quote
Super User David P Posted January 24, 2009 Super User Posted January 24, 2009 I had the Daiwa Froggin Rod. It telescopes a few inches above the reel seat. With a frog rod, I wouldn't be too concerned with sensitivity. One because your probably mostly going to be throwing frogs. Two, because you'll have braid on, so even if you tie a jig on, braid will help you out with sensitivity. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 24, 2009 Super User Posted January 24, 2009 any quality telescopic rod is extremely sensitive.on a good rod u wouldn't be able to tell the differencne. Quote
BARON49_Northern NY Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Have used telescopic rods since back in the 80's with Allstar and Fenwick and today have St. Croix Legends that are telescopic. Never broke one and they are just as sensitive and any other high quality rod. All the telescopic feature does is allow a long rod to be collapsed inside of itself by 12 to 24 inches to save space in you rod locker or truck. My personal favorite for frogging is a Legend 7'3'' MH with a fast tip. Quote
vicdotcom Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 You gota try that one that is shaped like a pen lol The fattest pen in the world! ;D Quote

MSPbass Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I've been looking at these myself lately. In fact, I checked out the Fenwick Techna AV 7'6" at Cabela's just this week and I asked the sales guy the exact same question. I don't know if anyone's seen this trick before, but it completely sold me. He had me hold the the rod in my hands while he took a few steps back and put the tip to his throat. I was like, "What's this kook doing?" And then he started talking. I felt everything he said through the vibrations in my fingers. I just looked at him without saying a thing. He just laughed. How could anyone answer the question better. Quote
