ROCbass Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 A couple days ago I posted about my c4 which started acting up after I serviced it. I have looked into all of the suggestions provided on that thread, and appreciate them all, but unfortunately none of them worked. I have decided to send the reel into Abu so their guys can take a look at it. I have never sent a reel anywhere before, and was wondering what the best way to package it would be. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 23, 2009 Super User Posted January 23, 2009 I have sent back to Abu, (Pure Fishing, in Iowa). I put the reel back into it's original box and pack that box into a 6"box availble at any packing store or the post office, you may need to put some newspaper in the box to remoVe the"wiggle. Pure Fishing has a reel repair form avaible on line, fill it out and make sure to ask for your line back if you desire it. I send it thru the U.S. Post Office and I include a confirmation of delivery, extra 50 cents or so but you get a tracking number. I'm sure it will go smoothly for you. Quote
fishizzle Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I would send it to Abu because they are likely to fix it for free or throw in any parts no charge and they may pay return shipping. They have a great service dept. No offense reel mechanic, but I know you don't work for free. Quote

Obviously, a cardboard box big enought to hold it. I'd put the reel inside a zip-lock freezer bag with your note to Abu about the problem. Put it in the box. You can use those plastic grocery sacks to use for padding and filler. I'd mail it USPS Priority Mail with deliver confirmation, as stated in Snooks post. The reason I'd send it priority mail is it will get there days earlier for only a buck or two more. Quote

No offense reel mechanic, but I know you don't work for free. None taken. Most everyone here knows we only service out of warranty reels (2 years old or better). Like stated above I would bubble wrap it in it's box then that in a USPS shipping box and send it Priority Mail Signature Confirmed Delivery, of course they aren't going to send it back that way, but still covers getting it to them. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 24, 2009 Super User Posted January 24, 2009 My last expierence with a Abu authorized warranty center was terrible but I just wanted to do something different. I had a bad bearing in my cardinal 802, drove 40 miles one way and upon my return to pick the reel the tech had told me the bearing in question was out of stock so he just switched the bearings around and said "yeah it's 90% better"...........in fact it was worse and it cost me 20-25 bucks. I'm sure Reel Mechanic would have handled it differently as he is an owner and not an employee and values repeat business. Sent it back to ABU in Spirit Lake Ia, 7 days later I'm fishing with a new reel. In no way is this a reflection any on other reel service center, just my expierence and this company is a very large operation that will never have my business again. Quote
