Super User eyedabassman Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 I am looking for a spinning reel. I am looking at the older models ( 08's). They are all on sale, the Energy $ 89 -the Catalyst $ 69-the Kinetic $ 59. What one should I buy? I am having a hard time making up my mind. :-? Quote
Stingray23 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I have an Energy PT30 and a few Catalyst PT30's and I think they are great. . Its really depends how much you're comfortable spending. You cant go wrong with either one. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I have the Catalyst PTI 20 and its a great reel and like the Energy as well. The reviews I read on the Kinetic weren't that great but doesn't mean it isn't a good reel. The new models of each of the reels is much smoother and lighter than last years models but if I was getting another 08 i would get the Energy PTI 20 Quote
jjonsgaard Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I have 2 Energys and a Kinetic. The Energy is by far the better reel. Definitely worth the extra $30. Quote
basser89 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I have 2 Kinetics and love them both (one is an '08 model)! One thing you should keep in mind is that if you decide to use braid, the Kinetic and the Catalyst have a different drag system than the Energy and I have witnessed on my fishing partner's reel (Kinetic - the same model I have) the drag failing (only with the braid, when he put the spool on with mono the reel works like a champ). He has not had any issues with the Energy. Hope this helps! Quote

lubina Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I have 2 Energy PTi, both with braid, 2-3 years old of continuous fishing. They are impeccables. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted January 23, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 23, 2009 Thanks, to all of you and the info. Well, I went to Cabela's today and bought the Energy PT 20. It was on sale for $ 89+ tax. I was at the counter ready to check out ;D and I told the lady that I will be doing a seminar at that store in March and they gave me another discount, so I picked it up for $ 80 with tax. And I was lucky it was the last PT 20 that they had. My second chioce was the Catalyst 20. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted January 23, 2009 Super User Posted January 23, 2009 I've always been a big fan of the checkout employees at the Richfield location. Lots of personality and a few cuties there as well. Quote
