LAO162 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 How would Yo-Zurin UltraSoft #10 (or alternatives) work with a Tierra 2500 spinning reel? I'm looking for something stronger the YZ-US #6, but still reasonably manageable. The #6 YZ-US was stronger that other #6, but not strong enough to reduce the number of lost baits (Reeds, Rocks, Timber...) Since I'm using this setup for fishing the shallow area of a quarry, I suspect #30 braid will not be best around the rocks. I plan to continue using #12 (and above) with my baitcasters and #6 with my finesse spinning outfit. Thanks for your suggestions. Leon Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted January 21, 2009 Super User Posted January 21, 2009 I was gonna suggest #8 until I read your entire post, but personally I would go with the #10 lb with KVD line conditioner applied a few times thru the year. On a spinning rig I would stay with a #8 Yo Zuri US though. for the other #10 lines, Gamma copoly, Trilene XL. I use the KVD conditioner on all of them. JMO Quote
Super User Muddy Posted January 21, 2009 Super User Posted January 21, 2009 10 lb Youzuri is a great all around line I tie it all around trash newpapers old suit case to keep it closed my pool cue case, broken lock I wouln'dt fish it though , too much money and I didnt like the stuff a bit : Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Yo-Zuri UltraSoft #10 on Spinning Reel? No, especially not a 2500. If you do though, please take a video for our viewing pleasure ;D Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 21, 2009 Super User Posted January 21, 2009 Braid (20/6 or 30/8) is the answer. Just check it periodically for cuts and fray. For some presentations a direct tie is fine, but I think you will have better luck with finesse if you use a fluorocarbon leader. I don't like braid, otherwise that is what I would do. 8-) Quote
Super User flechero Posted January 21, 2009 Super User Posted January 21, 2009 How would Yo-Zurin UltraSoft #10 (or alternatives) work with a Tierra 2500 spinning reel? Horrible To clarify a little... I tried #8 and #10 ultra soft on a spinning reel (2500 and 3000 sizes) and it would literally jump off the spool. It was bad. I can say that I ended up using #10 sufix elite (in the red box) with great results. It was more manageable than the ultra soft #8. The straight line break strength is probably less but still under rated and the abrasion resistance was very good. I have been using this line on my spinning reels for 3 years now with no complaints at all. It's the toughest line I've used that is nice and manageable on a spinning reel. Quote

Super User Tin Posted January 21, 2009 Super User Posted January 21, 2009 Well...braid + rocks = Yozuri Ultrasoft = Find a new line imo.... ;D Quote
Super User CWB Posted January 21, 2009 Super User Posted January 21, 2009 I have to disagree with most on this. I use Yo-Zuri 10lb ULTRASOFT on my light worming outfit which is a Shimano Spirex 4000 spinning set-up. Line does not jump off spool. Works quite nice. Regular Yo-Zuri Hybrid is pretty stiff and will spring off a spinning reel though. Both are extremely strong lines IMO. I have yanked a 4 lb'er in that had me wrapped twice around a metal pier post. I was pretty amazed. Quote
LAO162 Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Thanks for the ideas, I might keep at least one spool with 20 or 30 lb braid (introduces new topics for me to research ) and experiment with copoly's or mono on the other. I think Suffix Elite is available locally, along with some other favorites. Anyone use 10lb Big Game? Thanks!!! Quote
