maybe this has been discussed before but i have rarely seen any topics about this.

is Berkley GULP! really what it lives up to be? i mean all the advertising i see for it makes it seem like its the best out there and its scent dispersal makes it catch much fisho. well ive never used it, so this isnt an apporval/dissproval on my part, i just want to know if it is what it lives up to be and if its worth using.

I haven't used Gulp! much for bass, but for walleye its deadly. They say it out fishes live bait and that isn't no lie. When me and the ole man go fishing he'll use the real thing and I'll use a Gulp! nightcrawler. On more than one occasion we were both using Gulp by the end of the day. Its for real, for walleyes anyway.

Gulp! worms can catch bass and they get a lot of hits from bream but they are super for catfish.

You will catch any catfish in the area where you throw them.

And the tap-tap-tap from the bream can drive you nuts.

After you fish a Gulp! product be sure to have a wet rag to store the bait so it will not dry out.  If the bait dries out you have a very hard worm stuck to your hook.

I throw my Gulps! away after using them and I do not put them back in the bag with the unused baits.

Gulp! is a good bait and when the fishing gets tough I may fish one of their worms Texas rigged just to give my presentation a different look.

Give 'em a try and arrive at your own conclusions.  You may have better luck than me.

For bass I personally think its trash and that theres much better softbaits out there for bass such as GYCB, ZOOM, Powerbait Etc, but for saltwater fishing its amazing. The only gulp product I'll use for bass is the 6inch Nightcrawler for when im looking for a cheap counter part to the GYCB Kut-tail simply because I don't wanna tear the GYCB's up. But its still no comparison to the Kut-tail worm. Every other freshwater Gulp product Ive tryed was stiff, or bent or what ever, it just wasn't something I would call good. I believe the action of the bait is what gets the bass to hit it, the scent is what takes place when the fish has the bait in its mouth, now how is the fish going to hit the bait when the action isn't good? Sacraficing action for scent is stupid IMO.

I know the leech and minnow thingy's are amazing drop-shot baits for smallies. Had to learn that the hard way by being stubborn and not swithing from the zoom meathead and getting by but whooped. But those are the only 2 things I would purchase from them. Like Bassfishingmachine said, their are better soft plactics out there.

I've used the Gulp drop shot worm (almost a full bag now), on the drop shot and the wiggle rig. I don't like it because it gets stiff after being in the water a very short time. Finesse presentations require a natural movement to entice a fish. The Gulp products just don't look that good in the water, when compared, side-by-side, to the softer plastic worms or minnows available - at much less cost. Maybe the scent of the Gulp gives some people the "edge", I don't know. It didn't do much for me, is all I know.

Gulp is completely worthless for catching bass! It works well for panfish and catfish but I only caught 1 bass in two years fishing it? Actually I caught more watersnakes with it than bass so it is good for them too.

I don't think much of the Gulp products, they only seem to catch catfish around here (Northern VA). Senkos are the way to go if you want to catch bass. I have extremely good luck using the swim senkos.

I'm also in NoVA and think gulp is great for catfish and even snapping turtles, but not so hot for bass.

I love gulp for inshore fishing. It is killer on trout, redfish, and snook. Especially the pearl white jerkbait. But I have never used the freshwater kind.

I only used it a little bit but I didn't like how expensive it was and how it dries up after you use it. It also smells awful. I might be giving the jerkbaits a shot in the spring though just because soft jerkbaits are my favorite baits and I like to try all the options. Other than for that reason, I think I'd stay away from it completely; it's fish catching capabilities are not good enough to deserve the price and short lifespan.

I tried it once for bass and I didn't care for it.  It was messy, had a heck of a time getting it on the hook without getting hooked.   and just a high maintenace bait IMO  having to keep it wet.  But seeing how so many have had so much luck catching catfish with it.  I have a freind I go fishing with and thats all he fishes for is catfish  I will give it a try agin for catfish not for bass though.

Of any of the negative things written here I agree with them all.Certain gulp baits are killer for walleye though.(you think bass can be finicky!) The price is what gets me the most. You think GYCB is expensive? These rip up even easier, can never reuse them, and for the price of 2 packs you can buy a quality hard bait that will catch dozens of bass.

Caught my PB smallie on a 6" Gulp shakey worm.

That was in the spring of last year. Didn't catch anything else for the rest of the year on GULP.

Personally I think it stinks and the original power bait line is MUCH MUCH better for catching bass.

I have been using gulp saltwater for 3 years, what I have noticed is that, yes they catch fish. You can catch fish all day on them, but I can tie on a mirro lure or a saltwater bass assasin and catch 1 fish that weighs about the same as all the fish I caught on the gulp. The scent  is so strong I guess the trash fish will fight over it. ;D

GULP! does not work for drop shotting Lake Erie smallies.

In all seriousness, I've had phenominal days this year using certain GULP! baits, the shakey worm, leech, and goby were awesome for big smallies.

I've done well on Gulp! in the past, though haven't used it much lately.

Great post guys, I've always wondered about GULP! baits, but now I guess I'll stop wondering and save them for catfish (if I ever decide to fish for them) and saltwater.

thanks for all the feedback guys. its what i expected ::) ;D

berkley just advertises the hell out of it and make it seem like its the greatest and it will catch fish under all conditions, an "idiot" bait. well with claims like that it seems like some "as seen on tv" lure and we all know how those are.

its sad that berkley would put out something like that. i love the powerbait! caught my first bass on it:)

I knew better,  BUT I tried the new Gulp juice bucket and spilled it in my boat. My garage doesn't smelll to good these days and my wife says that  &%#^* doesn't smell like fish and is now wondering if I am really fishin all this time. I tried washing it out and aired the rig in the sun with hatches up for almost a week, didn't help. Anyone got any ideas?  I knew better, BUT!!!
