Super User cart7t Posted January 15, 2009 Super User Posted January 15, 2009 Take a chance and get the extremes, or go with the dependable Citica. Seriously, I've fished with several of the Extreme reels. So have quite a few others around here. Unless you have something against green reels, (I don't care for them) they're a great reel and will give you a lot of service. The cast really well, are very smooth and the ITB braking system is fairly easy to setup and learn. One thing for sure, don't go any lower than the extreme series in BPS reels. Anything below that winds up being a graphite framed reel that probably won't hold up over the long run.
moloch16 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I guess you think it is perfectly acceptable to buy a new reel every year? Like I said, it depends on how much you fish. Due to work and commitments at home I only fish 2-3 times a month. So no, I don't have to buy a new reel every year. If I fished 3 times a week then yes, I may have to buy a new reel each year.

BassBandit35 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 fishingismylife, if I were you I'd visit BPS site and look at the page (link below) under 70 dollars and look at each review. Check all the review will help out alot. Out of all review I've found David Fritts Signature Series is one of the best reel for that price. It has 6.3:1 gear ratio you looked for. Good luck with your choice. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SportingGoods?RequestAction=advisor&RequestData=CA_AttributeSelected&UseSheet=&ResultsPerPage=25&CatPath=All%2BProducts%252F%252F%252F%252FFreshwater%2BFishing%252F%252F%252F%252FReels%252F%252F%252F%252FBaitcast&OrigCatPath=All%2BProducts%252F%252F%252F%252FFreshwater%2BFishing%252F%252F%252F%252FReels%252F%252F%252F%252FBaitcast&AttribSel=Price+Range+%3D+%27%252450%2520to%2520%252475%27&submitted=yes&cmSType=N&viewastext=false&eaport=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.basspro.com%2Fwebapp%2Fwcs%2Fstores%2Fservlet%2F&storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&categoryId=100001001&deptId=100000000&subdeptId=100001000&ea_sortDirection=&ea_sortColumnName=¤tpage=3
BassBandit35 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Other one to look at http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90674_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 32 review posted, 4.8 of 5 stars. Retail at 99.99 but on sale for 69.99. It also has 6.3:1 gear ratio.

Super User roadwarrior Posted January 15, 2009 Super User Posted January 15, 2009 Be patient and pick up a Citica from our Flea Market in your price range, they pop up every now and then. This is a fine reel that will serve you well for many years. Strong, smooth, silent and reliant. This is what Shimano reels are all about. 8-)

BassBandit35 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 See what I mean. Now I don't blame you a bit Muddy. I was trying to help the guy out instead of convincing him to get what brand I prefer. Offer what we think is good for him instead of think of their own self.
Super User J Francho Posted January 15, 2009 Super User Posted January 15, 2009 Your best bet is to scour the flea market here, and other online classifieds. Ebay has been good to me, but you want to be careful. I always establish a dialog with the seller before bidding. Anyone that responds is probably on the up and up. You can tell who is just trying to move some unused stuff from the junk rats and ebay barons if you take some time to look at what they've bought and sold, and their feedback. I've picked up some pretty nice reels on the very cheap this way, and I've sold a few nice reels this way as well. Just last week I saw a couple of EC and NIB TD-X reels go for your price range. These were $200 when new.
Captain Obvious Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 Again thanks for all the info. I'm sorry but for those of you that suggest eBay or the flea market, I've been burned on Internet deals to much, after my last bad deal I promised myself to buy everything new. Looks like I'm going to be buying two extremes, I figure that if I take care of them and keep them clean they should last awhile. Thanks guys
TheBeast Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I have a Daiwa Procaster Rojo that would be just what your looking for. I bought it new last January and used it about 5 times. I paid $89 for it and will let you have it for $55 shipped. Still have the box and books and everything that came with it. Only thing it is a left handed model.
BassBandit35 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I've been burned on Internet deals to much, He already answered and I don't blame the guy. Been there myself.

Been there myself. thats a shame ppl get burned. ive never been burned and had i been given anything other than what i was sold i cancel payment and wait for an email from the seller/ebay. real simple.
Super User Muddy Posted January 15, 2009 Super User Posted January 15, 2009 Good Reels. I would send them to the service center BPS has , everyother year for a complete stip down /cleaning and lube. Other than that I have not broken one yet!
mikfort51 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 http://www.acadiasports.com I just bought one of these and for $70 it looks very good
ChiCityBasser Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 BassMaster had an article in a issue a couple of months ago with the same price point I think. I know one of the top reels at this price point in both the spinning and B/C category was the Daiwa Exceler which is right at $70. They also mentioned the Daiwa Regal XiA (which I have and is a very good reel). Another reel they menitoned in the spinning catergory was the Pflueger President.
moloch16 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Looks like I'm going to be buying two extremes, I figure that if I take care of them and keep them clean they should last awhile. Thanks guys Might want to buy one and see how you like it, then go back for another if it's right for you.
coolhandlala Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 citica all the way, I bought 2 for my first baitcasters and they are awesome. I am so glad I spend a little more and went the GOOD route, I still want a chrono 50mg though
BNKrust Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 The Daiwa Exceler is a really nice reel for $70 or so. They were $69.99 last year at Cabelas, but I see they have kicked up the price $10. Comes in a 6.3 or 7.1 also.
Bad to da Bass Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Go to ***.com and get the Quantum Burst reel. It is right at $70.00 and I own two of them. Quantum reels are the only reels I will ever fish with.
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 16, 2009 Super User Posted January 16, 2009 Quantum reels are the only reels I will ever fish with. At the ripe old age of 15, things might change... 8-)
Super User CWB Posted January 16, 2009 Super User Posted January 16, 2009 i like the dawia megaforce with the twichin bar and i also like using the abu silver max reels. I have one of each and love them both. The Diawa is 7.1:1 so it can be ruled out. BPS Extreme are fantastic reels for the price. I also have a BPS Rick Clunn which is sometimes on sale for about $70.00. Better than the $200.00 Shimano I own. I have my eye on a Quantum Accurist PT on E-bay so no one else bid on it!
The_Natural Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 That Prolite finesse is a step up from the Extreme, and it's on sale for $69.99. That seems like the right choice to me if you want a new reel.
