RLinNH Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Here's the deal. I am looking for a Spinning reel that I can rig up with 8 lb. Mono Test for use with weightless rubber lures. 7 inch lizards,Rubber Worms, and such. All I really know about Spinning reels is that I am partial to Quantum as far as my Casting reels go. I wanted to get a concensus here before I went spending my Money on Any reel. What Spinning reel are you using right now and are you happy with it? Quote

Do a search and you will find a wealth of info regarding this particular reel. Consesus my many is this is the best bang for the buck. AS well as my humble opinion A lot of folks like the president as well, but it is not a Shimano Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 1, 2009 Super User Posted January 1, 2009 Many Shimano fans think the Symetre is the best value. The Stradic 2500FI was awarded ICAST "Best In Class". I would recommend the Stradic 2500FI, but both reels are outstanding: Strong, smooth, silent and reliant. 8-) Quote
BARON49_Northern NY Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I have a box full of used spinning reels I was not happy with including a Quantum PT that sounds like there is gravel in the bearings. Had the chance to use a BPS Pro Qualifier wide spool spinning reel and for the money was amazed at how smoothly it casts and retrieves. Used the 2000 and a 4000 all last two years with no problems what so ever. Ordered another 2000 for the coming year. The 2000s are used mainly with 10 lb test Fireline for dropshotting and wacky head fishing. the larger 4000 I have spooled 14 lb fireline and use it for a variety of light crankbiats, topwater, and jerkbaits. BPS has three models of this reel in three price ranges, mine are the mid priced ones. Quote

mackkie Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Pflueger Supreme's are a smooth as ice, I was a shimano guy, but have been converted to Pflueger for spinning reels, you have to spend far more than $100 to get a shimano with the supreme features and performance. Quote

If we're talking baitcasters that's another story, but with spinning gear under $150 I would go supreme. Just one man's opinion, and many share that opinion with me. Quote

If you want to spend less than $100, go for a Pflueger Supreme or Shimano Symetre. (The Supreme is lighter, but I believe the Symetre might have the edge in durability and smoothness) If you want to spend $100-$150 get a Daiwa Tierra. If you want to spend $150-$200 get a Shimano Stradic. Quote

It's my opinion, which by the way, is shared by a number of others as well. Everyone has their own opinions, and that's why people ask questions on here, to listen to differing view points to form their own opinion. Saying one person's opinion is wrong,or their a turkey, because you don't agree with it doesn't help anyone, especially the person asking the question. Quote

vicdotcom Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Although your line specifications are a little different than what I use my spinning gear with, I went with and am completely satisfied with my Pflueger President. I have an ultralight setup with 4lb line for some fun fishing. Ultra smooth and for ultralight fishing it sure is fun. There was a while where I thought about getting a Stradic, but I decided for this purpose to spend less on the reel and a little more on a better rod since I do land a bass or three on this setup also. The bigger the fight, the better the rod I would need. But you asked for opinions and that is mine for spinning reels. Vic Quote

They have a new series out that have the paddle handle instead of the round handle, and the padded handle can be purchased separately. It only fits the 3000.
