FunnyFish Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 just thinking about buying a new reel and wondering what the opinions are out there. I looking for a spinning reel that is about 100 to 150 range. I use mostly braid. Just wondering whats best for the money for durability, less problems, and how smooth it is. I hold this forums thoughts very very high. Thanks in advance. Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 You can try the new Abu Garcia Soron. It's designed for braid. It is based on the Cardinal 800 which was one of the most robust reels on the market. The Soron replaced the 800. Quote
FunnyFish Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 was also wondering if the stradic would be good with braid Quote
bpraz Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I have the Abu Soron with 20 pound power pro on it with no mono backing an it works very well. Smooth as silk on the retrieve an the drag is the best i have ever felt. I love this reel so much i bought several. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 I would think any quality reel made would be able to handle braid. Quote
BARON49_Northern NY Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 All I use is braid for spinning and found BPS Pro Qualifer Wide Spool spinning reels to work great. Two years worth of fishing in all kinds of conditions and heavy use.....not a single problem yet. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 was also wondering if the stradic would be good with braid Sure. The Stradic 2500FI was awarded ICAST "Best In Class". 8-) Quote
Bayou Bass Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 The stradic is an absolute beast. My buddy has the 3000 size on a cumara and it is a dream setup. I use the 3000 saros which is another great option for a bit less than the stradic. The way the spools are designed with the beveled lip lets the line come off nice and even every cast. Get the stradic, you will not regret it. Quote
FunnyFish Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 thanks for all the opinions guys I will have to look into it more planning wedding. So this will be my one toy for the season. Thanks again probably going to go with the stradic Quote
BluFleck Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Well if your getting married, don't buy either because you will never get to use it! ;D Quote
21farms Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 the ABU soron has two gripper bands on the spool that prevents braid line from slipping. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 5, 2009 Super User Posted January 5, 2009 Daiwa Revros 2004, nope it 's not a domestic model, it 's a japanese model, I paid for the one I 've got 75 dollars, what makes it great ? The spool, it 's a shallow spool reel ( you don 't need to add filler line ), it 's designed to hold braided line, the spool is grooved ( to avoid slipping ) and has a hole for your knot ( for the knot to stay flush with the spool ), it has extra tough line roller and an extra though lip coating.
