P-line and Izorline

Looking to try something new... I'm looking at Izorline, P-line and Gamma. Any experiences you can share about these would be appreciated.

Any possible comparisons to XT would be great as well.

Izorline is really good line.  I like the xxx

It has low memory, I use 2lbs test for trout fishing and have had no problems with 4-5lbs trout.  

P-line, which one?  I like the original P-line and CXX, really strong and has some memory, but very abrasion resistant.  I use the 15 and 25lbs test for barracuda and tuna fishing out here in socal

However, I do think you should stay away from the Pline Floroclear.....  I liked it at first but found after some fishing it started to break easier and the abrasion reistance isn't really on Par.

Give Izor XXX a shot... I think you will like!

Get some CXX, it makes for a much better slinky than XT.

I recently tried the new CX Premium. #6 can be broken by hand!

I got so mad I threw it away instead of taking it back.

Floroclear cannot be trusted, either.

Gamma Copolymer is great, but seems overpriced to me.

Stay away from their Fluorocarbon, it is unfishable on spinning

tackle and probably has more memory than P-Line on a baitcaster.

Seriously, I know several guys on here love them some

P-Line CXX and you might, too. However, I fished #6 on

spinning tackle and #17 on baitcasting equipment for

several years. It's tough and strong, no doubt, but it's wiry.

In the cold, #17 in particular, will not straighten out.

Regarding Gamma, I have only fished #10 which doesn't

really fit me. So, with limited experience, I rate it up with

Yo-Zuri. Gamma does not develop kinks from overruns,

so that is an advantage over Hybrid. The line is very strong,

smooth and limp. It also blends well in water.

The downside is price. Maybe the cost is not outrageous, but

it is irritating.

Seems I have also heard that the CXX is pretty "xt-like".   I wonder of the CX is the same?

I've been reading up on Izorline...  (I made the mistake of googling it)  

I have to admit I am intrigued.  The platinum is said to be very tough and abrasion resistant, and I gather from other reports it would also act sort of like XT.  I haven't found much on the xxx.

I have been using CX Premium for years. Very strong. Super manageable. My favorite line. I try lots of lines and end up coming back to CX Premium. I use 6# and 8# on my spinning rigs, 12# and 15# on my bait casters. Very small diameter for breaking point.

Unlike RW I have never had breaking problems. I have actually cut my hands many times trying to break off the 6# when hung up. My PB was caught on spinning gear with 6#. The fish weighed 6 and change.

CXX is less manageable (more memory) but you could use it to haul timber. Super strong and abrasion resistant. The KVD conditioner works well on it. I like the 6# for spinning. I would buy it again. Once I'm finished with the 15# spool I have I will not buy more, I just like the CX Premium better.

How is the CX as far as abraision resistance?  I fish a lot of timber and rocks?

I fish a man made residential lake with cement bulkheads that has lots of chunks of cement with rebar tossed into the lake by the construction crews. 12 and 15 lb. CX Premium holds up well when dragged over that stuff. Braid gets eaten alive.

CX Premium = junk, F.

CXX X-tra Tough = A+

Fluoroclear = junk, F

100% Fluorocarbon = OK, B-

100% Fluorocarbon Leader Material: + Very Good, A-

I tried CXX last year after some recommendation from this forum. The good news it was really strong line. The problem for me is that this line has way too much memory which became unmanageable. I really like the P-line fluorocarbon and use it on my a few of my baitcasters.

I'm sure all the lines you mentioned will get the job done.  I only use CXX, and love the stuff.  It is tough.  If you were worried about abrasions I don't know how anything can be better.  you should see the size of some of the logs I've been able to pull up with the stuff.  It does have memory, but regular KVD use helps a bunch.  I've never had it not straighten out after just a few minutes of fishing.  In fact with use of KVD this year I didn't respool at all.  Last year I did change about 3 times though.

Imo, the memory is more than manageable for the gains in abrasion resistance.  Also I wouldn't mess with anything higher than 15.  The 15 will be more than stout enough for you.

KVD L&L resolves that issue.  Also, its so strong, no need to go over 12# for *most* applications.

There's no doubt that Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft is stronger per its stated # test than Floroclear or CX.  However, at both #6 and #12, so far the YZ-US has not provided enough additional strength to prevent me from losing baits due to snags in heavy cover (similar situations).

In terms of line memory, to me the unbiased test is my father who uses my crankbait rod for pumpkin seeds ("Kibbies" as he calls them).  He doesn't care about the equipment used, and just fishes for fun.  He was impressed by the smoothness of the Stradic 2500FH with #6 floroclear and #8 CX.  He paid no attention to the line.  However, I did not tell him when I switched to #6 YZ-US; he quickly complained about line-twist and tangles and switched to my other rod...

It also may not be appropriate to compare #6 CX to #6 YZ-US, since the YZ-US is thicker and stiffer.

# 6 YZ-US is .010 inches thick

# 8 CX is only 0.0092 inches thick

#10 Floroclear is 0.10 inches thick

While I intend to continue experimenting with YZ line, I will be comparing it to lines with similar diameters and line handling characteristics.

I would move on and not bother with comparing either CX or Fluoroclear, as they aren't even in the ballpark compared to Yo Zuri or CXX X-tra Tough.

Most line from P-Line in my mind are very good. I pretty much only use the 100% flurocarbon so its not really fair to compare.  I haven't tried Izorline yet, but it does look promising.  Gamma, even though it is a good line (except the price), after what they did to their pro staff, I don't think I can support them and will ever buy their line again.

I used Izorline XXX pretty much all summer long and really like the stuff. I have bulk spools of #10, #12, #20 and I think #15 (its in the boat so I cant check now).

I appreciate it, but don't want you to go through the trouble.  I can order a couple filler spools to try out.  (I would have sent you money for your trouble anyway.)

Can you compare it to XT or some other line I might be familiar with?  That will tell me enough to know if I want to try it out.
