The Next KVD Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Last year, BPS had the bulk spools on sale and I bought a few to use as backing. But I would like to know how it stands up as a mainline? I ask this because I mainly don't want to waste the line, it'll take me forever to use up what I got if I only use it for backing material even though i believe I got the 3 bulk spools of it for $10 total. How sensative is it? How good is the abrasion resistance? Castability? Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted January 1, 2009 Super User Posted January 1, 2009 It's decent line, especially for the sale price of the bulk spool. It has some manageability problems as it does have some memory to it but it is relatively strong and sensitive. I've mainly used the heavier sizes for catfish but do have some of the 12lb blue line that I use for night fishing and trolling cranks for walleye. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 It is decent line for the money. And cheap enough to justify changing it after every trip. Abrasion resistance isn't a strong suit. I did pull an old Christmas tree to the surface last summer with 17 lb. Not as tough as Trilene XT or PLine CXX, but still a decent line. Quote
booneangler Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 i use there excel florescent line for night time T Rigs Quote
Super User cart7t Posted January 3, 2009 Super User Posted January 3, 2009 I've used it in the past as an emergency line if I ran out of the good stuff. Decent line though the bulk spool I had worked out much better for backing than anything. Quote

The Next KVD Posted January 3, 2009 Author Posted January 3, 2009 Posted by: BassBandit35 Posted on: Today at 10:45pm "The Next KVD" wants to know whats the best line to use? Na, I already know whats the best line to use ( P-Line 100% Fluoro), I just hate wasting line, especially if its in a bulk spool and I initally planned on using it for backing. Thought I would use it up so it didn't go to waste. Thinking now of just donateing it to some younger anglers I know otherwise I'll never be able to get rid of it. Quote
21farms Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 excel isn't bad line at all. about as strong as trilene XL but handles more like XT but not nearly as stiff as regular stren mono. overall, i'd say it's good line, especially at the price. i have no worries using it...unfortunately, i hardly ever use mono any more. Super User eyedabassman Posted January 3, 2009 Super User Posted January 3, 2009 There are much better lines out there than the Excel ! I would use it for backing of reels also! Remamber you get what you pay for! I like the Gamma lines, great line.Another great line is the Sufix and there Braid is the best Braid out there.Just my two cents worth! Quote
