After spending time on several of these bass forums I found I was spending way too much at BPS.  I still check out their clearance sales and find a bargin or two, but for the most part doing a little looking around on the web saves you lots of money.

For years and years BPS was my "go to place" for on line or catalog shopping. I perhaps averaged $1000 a year there for 10 or 15 years. They USED to have fast shipping and reasonable prices. Now partially do to their slow shipping and higher prices it's more like $60 bucks a year. I doubt I'm the only one who has wised up.

I cancelled my account with BPS  and have used all my points up. I will stick with TW and mostly Cabela's , I have never had an issue with Cabelas.

That's what the "price matching" pricing model is all about.  You catch a few uneducated suckers along the way.  I've always found it to be a little shady.  Just give me your best price and your best service, please.

Like any other kind of shopping you need to do some legwork, and compare prices.

All the places have some great deals from time to time.

There is no need to ever pay the regular retail price for most items.

With BPS, you need to check catalog prices, on-line deals, and flyer prices.  It is a bummer that they do not automatically charge the sale price.

Right now BPS has a clearance on J Morris signature rods.  Regular $170.00 for $70.  My guess is that if someone grabs one off the rack, the cashier will ring it up at $170.00  Clearance:

Regular online catalog sale price:

Price in their 2008 Master fishing catalog $170.00

I've bought all my combos that way, and saved from 20 to 70 dollars per combo.  In my mind it's like having coupons available for certain products.  If you are aware of the price, you have a discount coupon.

If some are too lazy to do due diligence before buying, they'll pay the higher price.

Do your homework, especially when shopping for high ticket items.

I get a kick out of their "sales" prices that only amount to pennies per item on five or ten dollar items.

BPS is carrying the new Revo S, the others are carrying the older model.

Abu Garcia upgraded their Revos, including the S. Now they are all made with the Xcraftic aluminum frame (same as the Inshore) and HPCR bearings. The old models have the regular aluminum frame and stainless bearings. There was a price increase, in part, as a result of the upgrades - like with just about every other company out there.

And BPS has price matching. Call them and get them to match TW's price. Maybe you'll get the upgraded reel for the old price.

I will contiue to use the 2 BPS rods I have and I still have an Extreme Reel ( BC) if I wanted anymore I would rather get them used and in good condition.

You can pick up KVD Line & Lure Conditioner at Tackle Warehouse for less then at BPS. $7.79 as I recall.

The only ones on clearance are the '07 spinning models, and they'll ring up for the clearance price. I bought one 2-3 months ago. ;)

They were originally $159. The 08 models are/were $169, and the 09 models are closer to $200, IIRC.

The '09 models are out already, so the '08 models should go on clearance pretty soon.
