bjohnson Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 BPS had 10 BB reels advertised for $39.99, I didn't expect them to be much, but after playing with one in the store for a bit I decided I needed 2. I LOVE THIS REEL! I know it isn't anything fancy, but is cast awesome. I was just curious if anyone else got one, and what they thought about it? The only have one other LP bait caster a BPS extreme, but I think I must have gotten a bad one. My BPS extreme seems very inconsistent casting with a lot of back lashing. These two reels I once I got them adjusted for the lure, not a single back lash. Quote
The Rooster Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 What are they?? They look like they're built on the new series 10 frame, shaped just like the new Pro Qualifier, handle and all. Incidentally, I have 3 Extremes and all of mine cast very well. At first they seem to be a chore to get dialed in right but once you work with them for a while then they line right out, it's all about the proper adjustments. They have such a free spooling design that it is very easy to backlash one until you get it set up right. Those reels look nice for $39. Are they graphite frames?? Looks like you have them on an Extreme rod. Quote
Cravin Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Ya , What are they? and how long is the sale? I'm not beyond thowing a $40 reel. It looks prety nice as far as construction. I got a $100 dollar Cruxis for $40 and it has a plastic star drag and plastic spool adjustment knob. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 14, 2008 Super User Posted December 14, 2008 That looks like an older Pro Qualifier QX-10 that BPS put out a few years ago. I seem to recall they only had that model for a single season and it was sold under limited quantities and specials. It didn't have the swept handle on it though. I had one, used it for a season. It was a nice reel, no problems. BPS is known to re-introduce reels that are several years old and rebrand them or add some things to make them appear as a new model. The best example is the latest Johnny Morris Sig Gold reel. It's actually an older reel design that was out some 4 years ago. Last season they were selling it as the JMX 10HP, same reel as the gold one. It was a good reel, the centrifugal brake worked well. Quote
bjohnson Posted December 14, 2008 Author Posted December 14, 2008 I don't know that much about the different reels, but this one is called a "Tournament Plus". It is on sale until today 12/14, and they said it was sold as limited quantities. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPageC?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=163&option=3&template=circular.cfm&catalog=dec1_28_08_tab&rfx_versioningid=039&storeID=41 Quote
bjohnson Posted December 14, 2008 Author Posted December 14, 2008 Rooster I know you love your extreme reels, and I have several friends that I work with that love this reel also. I think I may have gotten a bad one. I am going to exchange it for another one and give it another chance. I have 6 other bait casters 2 BPS, and 4 Abu's with no trouble back lashing. Quote

The Rooster Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Rooster I know you love your extreme reels, and I have several friends that I work with that love this reel also. I think I may have gotten a bad one. I am going to exchange it for another one and give it another chance. I have 6 other bait casters 2 BPS, and 4 Abu's with no trouble back lashing. Just remember they are a really super free spool design so they can backlash easily if you don't have them set up right for the weight of bait you are throwing. Also the rod can affect it too if it isn't loading right, like say trying to throw a 1/4 oz. spinnerbait on a rod that's rated for only heavier lures. If it doesn't load right then it's gonna mess up your cast but good. Add that to an out of adjustment reel and you really got a mess! Quote
Bean Counter Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Several years ago I bought a BPS reel for about that amount of money. I think it was a Megacast. I liked it so much I bought two more. All three of them were worn out after one season. Plastic parts just don't last with hard use. Quote
SlowRollin Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I bought two in the left hand model I love them and am goin to get two more perfect for me I'm on a shoestring college budget hard to find cheap reels in left hand Quote
Grumpy413 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I looked that reel over at the store also it is a graphite frame. I passed on it and had them match the online price for a Pro-Finesse Reel 69.99. They are changing the pro-finesse reel next year and the Rick Clunn so they are blowing out the remaing stock cheap.
