Cabela's XMLti Baitcast Rods

Any of you guys tried this rod out, any good?  It seems to be the least expensive of the Recoil guide rods.  I've been wanting to try a rod w/ Recoil guides & just wasn't sure if the XMLti blanks are any good compared to like a Shimano or others.  How is the sensitivity & overall rod?

I'm looking at the 6'10" MH b/c rod for mono line jig & worm fishing.  I like the 6'10" length, seems to be more of an all around type of rod for me.

i have the 6'10" pitchin' model. i like it but don't love it. for some reason, they're heavier than you'd expect (equivalent crucials and powells are much lighter). if you're patient, they occasionally go on sale for $109.99.

Hey ghost, I have no idea about the Cabela's rods.

I do have a couple of thoughts about recoil guides.

I have two Setyr rods,

a SPB184M, 7' MF, 8-17#, 1/4 - 5/8oz

a CLS184M, 7' MF, 8-17#, 1/4 - 5/8oz

Both have the same split grip, no fore grip design, same reel seat, nearly identical grip dimensions, and what appears, and feels, to be the same blank.

The only difference is the first has Forecast guides and the other has Recoil guides.

If their is any difference in feel between these two rods, it's imperceptible to me.

I even tested this one day when bored. I fished one with a Revo Stx, 10lb Xl, and an uweighted Super Fluke for about an hour. Then switched the reel to the other rod. Same reel, same line, same bait. I could not feel any difference. Used that one for about an hour and switched back. Still could not feel any difference.

There is one other difference between these two rods. MSRP for the one with Recoil guides is about 40 bucks more.

I would not pay more for a rod just because it has Recoil guides. On the other hand, I wouldn't let Recoils scare me away from a bargain.

It has been reported that Recoils become grooved, particularly with braid. I have not noticed this, but I do not use braid. I've used this rod a lot, and the guides still look new. No problems at all with them, but no noticeable advantage either.

looking back over my earlier post, i think it came out harsher than i intended. i really like everything about the rod except for the weight. i can't but think that the thick layer of glossy epoxy clearcoat they put on the bottom third of the rod is mostly to blame. the lockdown reel seat is many times more secure than most of my other rods...it never comes loose on its own or needs retightening. i have to admit that i was attracted to the rod mainly for the recoil guides and i do like how tough they are (i nearly cried when i mangled a guide on my g.loomis rod opening my boat's storage compartment lid).

i've read/heard rumors that the blanks are g.loomis...i dunno about that. cabela's, to their credit, has a great return policy and they offer a 60-day no-questions-asked return policy with their XMLti rods. definitely worth serious consideration at the $110 sale price. otherwise, i think shimano crucials and powell max's at $140 are a better buy.

I have a 6'6 version of the that rod and it is done well for me. Have had it for a little over a year of constant fishing and no problems. For me the weight is fine and the guides work great. With the price they are at they do make a good buy, worth looking into

I don't have the XMLti but have the XML versions of there rodsin the spinning versions . I have one 6'6", 7' and a 6"6" split grip and they are great rods with the normal price being $139.99 and I've caught them all on sale for around $70 and I agree they have a great return policy and found out when I snapped the 6'6" rod in two. I went in with the receipt and tag from the rod and it took me longer to find the new rod then the exchange. They are light at least in my opinion and very sensitive. I want to step up to an XMLti but for the cost I'll stick with the XML versions

I have 2 xmlti Baitcasters, a 7'0" MH Carlolina Rig rod and a 6'6" MH.  They are pretty good rods, but are a bit on the heavy side.  I really like the Carolina rig rod, its the best carolina rig rod I have ever owned.  I would say overall they are a really good value, but if you are looking for a lighter rod then its not the one for you.
