i want to use 15 , 17 , 20 , 25  test flourocarbon lines and was wondering what the best knot is . i haven't used the higher test flouro lines yet but am aware that the improved clinch and palomar might not be best . appreciate some opinions on this , thanks .........  ;)

pgersumky,  Go to the www.triplefishlines.com page and look at the articles and knot library and take a look at the Braid and fluorocarbon Knot.  I use this knot for all types of lines and techniques (minus the dropshot).

pgersumky, I have charter captains all over the world that fish for anything from Tuna to Marlin using this knot with lb test ranging from 10lb to 100lb leaders.  I personally use that knot for everything but the dropshot.  The good thing about it is you don't have to bring a bait through a loop like you do with the palomar and it's next to impossible to overlap the strands of line when you cinch it which causes flourocarbon to cut into itself thus weaken the line.  Both knots will definitely work.  YOu just gotta tie clean and pretty knots when you tie the palomar.

I saw this post today and thought to myself it would be a good idea to learn a new knot.

So I go to this website and spent 30 minutes trying to tie this darn thing and I could not ONCE get the knot to hold.  It would always just pull free.

Amazing...I have an engineering degree from Ga Tech and I cannot tie this freakin' knot even with a diagram  ;)

I'm gonna have to practice some more.

I think that knot is also known as the double eugene knot. Shaw Grigsby showed us how to tie that right after the classic this last year and said that was the only knot for florocarbon, he said when they tied the polymar that it would burn through at the knot when they would set the hook. He said it also could be used for mono but had no troubles with the polymar on mono. Take it for what is worth, everybody has there own opinions, that is what he chose to share with us. Awesome guy buy the way. Also he said if you hang a set of keys or something with a little weight on the hook it makes it a little easier.

The Sixteen-Twenty Knot, also known as a Duncan Knot or Pitzen Knot:

http://206.210.94.83/assets/recommended_knots/pdf/fhf_knot_sixteen_twenty.pdf

This is a modification of the San Diego Jam and functions

much like a noose. This knot will not cut line and cannot slip.

Plus, it's really pretty!

Tip for tying new knots:

Tie your knots with a small cotton rope. This allows you to "see the

knot" in your mind. Practicing with the rope will make tying the knot

with fishing line much, much easier.

I have used both the Palomar and the double improved clinch knot for fluoro with equal success. In the heavier lines I give a nod to the Palomar.

Checked out the webpage of knots and the knot shown is very simular to the double improved clinch knot.
