Bassboss Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 For Christmas I'm either gonna get some copoly, mono, or braid. I can't think of which one I should get. I'll be fishing pilings, and weeds most (lilly pads, reeds, hydrilla) stained, and muddy water. If I get braid it'll be power pro. If i get copoly, it will be yo-zuri ultra soft. And if I get mono it will be sufix elite. But of course, I'm open to suggestions! Quote

Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted December 14, 2008 Super User Posted December 14, 2008 For Christmas I'm either gonna get some copoly, mono, or braid. I can't think of which one I should get. I'll be fishing pilings, and weeds most (lilly pads, reeds, hydrilla) stained, and muddy water. If I get braid it'll be the Daiwa samurai braid. If i get copoly, it will be yo-zuri ultra soft. And if I get mono it will be sufix elite. But of course, I'm open to suggestions! what's up with the daiwa braid , do you think it's alot better than power pro ??? i my self use power pro and i couldn't see myself paying $70.00 for a 300 yard spoll of braid . i do see it's alot thinner but is it as strong as power pro ???? . sorry to get off the subject of your post but you are the first person i've heard of wanting to buy that daiwa braid . just want to know if that stuff is really worth the extra $ 40 more per spool ........ 21farms Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 I'll be fishing pilings, and weeds most (lilly pads, reeds, hydrilla) stained, and muddy water. as long as there are no sharp rocks nearby, sounds like the perfect application for braid to me! when pulled taut, braid cuts through weeds nicely. Super User Micro Posted December 14, 2008 Super User Posted December 14, 2008 What kind of pilings? Concrete? If so, I don't think braid will be the best choice. For an all-around line, you can't beat Yo-Zuri Hybrid. It's significantly stronger than it's rated test, has very little stretch, and it is very abrasion resistant. I use on my deep cranking outfit, and most of the application that need a MH or H rod. I even use it for fishing frogs. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted December 14, 2008 Super User Posted December 14, 2008 I generally stick with Copolymers. I just like the limpness, abrasion resistance, and thin diameter. I only use braid if I am fishing dense vegetation. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 15, 2008 Super User Posted December 15, 2008 I'm also in S.E. florida and I fish both fresh and salt. I use nothing but braid (except on a drift boat, crew complains about it) and powerpro works just fine. I see no need to spend the extra money and pay shipping on top of it when you can walk in to walmart and buy 300 yards for 23 bucks. The real question is what are you fishing for and do you use bait or artifical. I think pilings I think the piers and you may want line capacity if you are fishing for snook or tarpon. If you go with mono or copolymer try soaking the spool in hot tap water first, it takes the "coil " out of it and spools up better. On the rare times when I use mono, I will go to the inlet and let out a bare line into the current and reel back thru my fingers to take the line twist out. Quote

It'll fresh water, fishing for bass. And the pilings are pilings from a bridge under the, Okeechobee canals. Mostly artificials, but I'll use live bait a couple times year. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 16, 2008 Super User Posted December 16, 2008 the line is probably the most important part of the equation, it's the connection to the fish........go with what you are comfortable with, there is no wrong choice, just preference. Quote
