So they have the President on sale at my local tackle shop, but the new one is only about 20 ish more dollars. I was wondering if I should pay the extra 20 to get the newer one or just stick with the old model.

Can someone give me a comparison of the 2 reels?

Get the new or stick with the old? Pros and Cons?

As far as I can tell the new Prez is just like the old Medalist.  Aluminum frame is about the only major difference in the two President models out right now, other than that red color on the new one.  Then the crank handle on the new one is the large rubber knob while the old one still has the rosewood knob.  I like them both.  If I were to get another one I'd probably get the new one just because it has the aluminum frame over the graphite but I have no problems with the old one either.  I like mine just fine.

ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE NEW BAITCASTER OR THE NEW SPINNING REEL> FROM THE PRICE DIFFERENCE IT LOOKS LIKE THE BAIT CASTER:. BOTH THE OLD AND THE NEW PRESIDENTS ARE BUILT ON ALUMINUM FRAMES. New President is a lower profiled model with a different bearing count, that is the basic difference. The ABU Revos were so well received it seems many manufacturers are going to similar profiles. THE PRESIDENTS ARE ALL ON ALUMINUM FRAME.

I owned an older one, but I really prefer the Trion LP's for bait casting. As far as comparing them Old vs new, I have not every used the new ones, and opinions are not worth much without experience, so I will not give one.

The President is a fine reel, I liked the Trion as it was easier to Palm, this may change things.

the new one is 0.9 ounces lighter, sits lower on the rod (much easier to palm) at the expense of 23% less line capacity (actually a plus for some people, me included). personally, i'd spring for the newer one.

In that case then my original post was on target.  The President spinning reel I got early this year has a graphite frame but the new one has an aluminum frame.

If you are not fishing salt water, then the current President is an incredibly reliable reel. I have no experience with The XT's , but I do know that the regular Blue model has served me well, and never had any torque or twisting problems the pros talk about NADA, not one.

There are several differences as Pflueger is appealing to the salt water crew, more and more.

If there is a 20 buck difference, I don't know if that is a Canadian thing. The President XLT's here are 9 bucks more than the President spinning reels and the President bait casters are 21.95 more than the older discontinued models

I can not and will not give any input on the XT's( new red ones) Because I have never used them. I will get one, since I am home in Brooklyn a lot and fish more and more salt water. My take on new models is to wait a year and read reviews that start WELL I HAVE USED THIS REEL FOR A WHILE NOW, and I would avoid any opinion that starts off with ; What I have heard, or What I have read, offer litltle in the way of an experienced review.

Hey Trippy A HEADS UP, on the flea market there is a post from TRAVIS, a guy I have done business with successfully. He has some Used Presidents for like 30 bucks, GOOD DEAL!

I think I might try one of the new Presidents this coming year Muddy.  Watch for my review.   :)  I read where some don't like that red color but I kind of do like it.  Also even though my blue Prez never torqued out of shape either, I like knowing I have an aluminum frame on the reel.  Still though, the one blue one I have never was a problem either.

OK, I am gonna wait a year. I have an Okuma I use in the brine, and I am very happy with it. I will wait for your review, because I know you really pay attention to detail when you use your equipment. All of your posts show this clearly

I guess I can wait a year for the reviews of the new President. Since everyone is so content with the current one, I will hope to get one from Travis if he ever replies to me.
