Do I have a problem?

Yesterday I bought some new lures and today I found myself testing out the new lures in my swimming pool? Has anyone else ever done this or am I just strange....? I use my pool to test out new baits and also to tune crank baits with lips. I mess with the lips on my baits that are out of tune and cast the bait into the pool to test how it swims... Anyone else do either of these two things?

We have a pool in our backyard, I'm always out there messing around while I'm not fishing. I test out new baits and practice my flipping and pitching.

  My dad taught my brother and I to use a baitcaster in our backyard pool when we where kids. He tied on a old lug nut and wrapped it in duct tape so we could not damage the pool.

Yea if you got the pool you can tune crankbaits and watch fall rates. Check the action of plastics.

reminds me of one day i kept throwing a buzzer on a grassy bank and had a little black cat chasing it every time.The neighbor saw and just laughed,told me to at least practice catch and release.

Wish I had a pool to use for doing those types of things though,any does is lucky.I have though been guilty of using an aquarium and my mothers hot tub to watch plastics and jigs,shakey heads,action under water though.(see thread:you may be a hardcore basser if..)

Persian or Himilayian fishing, they will just swat at it. The bulldog will eat it though.

I don't have a pool, so sadly I can't do this  :'(. But does the chlorine have any negative effects on the baits or anything? Like can it add a bad scent or, cause any problems?

Tin2win you should try a trailer hook if your cats are striking short.LOL ;D ;D

I don't have a pool either, so i just use the bathtub. I've dropped every jig and trailer combination and shakeyhead rig immaginable in there.

I think a pool is a great way to test out a new bait and tune it.  Actually, I wish sporting goods stores had a pool for testing their products.  There are numerous crankbaits in my box which I wouldn't have bought If I'd seen their action first.  But I suppose tackle stores want us to purchase lures-not reject them.

Im glad I read this thread. I always do this. The most incredible thing was when I tested a new luckycraft pointer in the pool. I was in shock, they walk the dog better than any other lure about 3 feet under water. My vision 110 was also tested in the pool, that was another amazing thing. Great way to test out senko type plastics to see which ones fall slower, tail wag ect.

No that is perfectly normal behavior like Raul said.

This is when you have a problem

Fish tank and pour your own plastics.

Test the plastics action.  Not satisfied

Repeat.

BTW chichlids are agressive and will attack you lures ;D

This spring I tuned a spinnerbait in the swimming pool before I went fishing.  Went out and couldn't buy a bite on the spinnerbait.  Added some scent and started catching fish.  Don't know if the chlorine had anything to do with it, but just in case, now whenever I try a lure out in the pool I always add scent to it afterwards.

;D lol you might be a bass fishermen if!!! my partner and i do this in his pool all the time! run cranks, spinnerbaits to see who has better flash, fall rate of jigs. who knew a pool could be so usefull!!!

i do the samething but i use a fish tank, its a little challenging when i throw a crank in there to see its action but i can do it,

The pros test their baits in swimming pools.

I want to do the same but I belong to a health club and have not worked up the nerve to ask if I can cast into the pool to test my crankbaits and spinnerbaits.

Great idea.  Go for it!

And let us know which lures need the most tuning.

I wish there was a pool in my backyard, I could really test some crazy ideas I have for crankbaits.
