shootermcbob Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 What rod do you guys use for spinnerbaits. I use mostly 3/8 or 1/2 ounce spinners. I am looking at cabelas xml C70SB which is a 7' mh fast action split grip xml rod. I have three cabelas xml rods and like them. I currently throw spinnerbaits with my 6' 6" medium power fast action xml rod. Just wondering what rods everyone uses and why. Quote
Stingray23 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I used a BPS Woo Daves extreme spinnerbait rod that is 6'6" med. power these past 2 summers and liked it a lot. I just stepped up to a Quantum Tour Edition Kevin Vandam signature series rod that is 6'10" and med/hvy with fast action. I have yet to try it out. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 I have two rods. The primary is an All Star IM10X 6'8" Mhvy fast, great for buzz baits and most spinnerbaits over 3/8oz. the second is a TAS 6'4" med fast which I throw smaller 1/4 oz baits with. Quote
spotaholic Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I like my G Loomis 812 6'9" Med Xfast spinnerbait rod. I can throw a small to med large spinnerbait and iit is amazing with a buzzbait. Soft but lots of power. Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I like my G Loomis 812 6'9" Med Xfast spinnerbait rod. I can throw a small to med large spinnerbait and iit is amazing with a buzzbait. Soft but lots of power. x2 that, I have the exact same rod and I love it, great rod. Quote
The Rooster Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Well, I'm no expert at all so I'm just replying for fun. I just got a 6'6" Shimano Compre MH with fast tip that I plan to use for spinnerbaits of 3/8 and 1/2 oz. sizes. I read that a nice stiff rod is desirable to fish these baits on so I think it should do nicely. For 1/4 oz. sizes, I am going to get the same rod again but in a medium instead of MH. Always before this I just used a medium rod for 1/4 and 3/8 baits, and rarely fished 1/2 oz. sizes at all. Never had a problem really, but I want to step up my bass fishing this coming year and start using some heavier baits to get down deeper, sort of break out of the way I am used to fishing and target some larger fish (hopefully). So my reply has probably not helped you at all, sorry for that, but at least I'm participating. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I like my G Loomis 812 6'9" Med Xfast spinnerbait rod. I can throw a small to med large spinnerbait and iit is amazing with a buzzbait. spotaholic Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I think I heard that they either have or will have a GLX model of this same rod. How cool is that. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 I would always prefer G. Loomis, but for this specific application I fish my "all-around" treble hook rod. This is also my rig for buzzbaits and medium weight spinnerbaits: St. Croix Avid AVC66MF which has a soft tip. For heavier lures (3/4 oz Ledgebuster Single Willow Blade), Legend Elite ES70 MHF. 8-) Quote

Skunked in DR Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 G Loomis SBR813. It's a fantastic rod for throwing bigger spinnerbaits. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 Medium heavy with a fast tip. Quote
Olebiker Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Falcon Low Rider 5-164. It's their 6'4" MH spinnerbait special. I use it for spinnerbaits up through 3/8 oz. For 1/2 oz spinnerbaits I use a Low Rider 6-166. It's a 6'6" MH that is a bit stouter. Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 9, 2008 Super User Posted December 9, 2008 Either a 7'3" MH Carrot for windy days and long casts when I need to be able to hit them hard to make up for the line. Or a 6'9" MH Carrot for roll casting them to docks and under things. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted December 9, 2008 Super User Posted December 9, 2008 Granted I've only just begun to get into the higher-end tackle, but I cannot imagine a better combo than the one I have. Revo STX and Kistler Mg69APC. This combo is light and well balanced, and has a nice Moderate-Fast to Fast action. Quote
mar Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 if i had to pick one type of rod for 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits it would be a 7ft mh/ fast rod. Personally i would recommend a loomis mbr843 if you want it under 7ft then the mbr783. they are both great all-around rods as well Quote
The_Natural Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Just pick a medium-heavy powered rod of your choice. Quote
