shootermcbob Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 what kind of line do you guys use when fishing spinnerbaits??? why do you use the type that you do??? Quote
VekolBass Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Completely depends on where you are fishing. If you are fishing in stained to muddy water heavy mono or braid. Braid if you are fishing in or around heavy vegetation. If you are fishing stained to clear water then you want to start thinking about fluorocarbon. Since most spinnerbait fishing involves throwing towards some kind of wood or grass I would suggest staying away from anything less than 12lb test. It also depends on the depth you want to work, because fuorcarbon sinks, you can fish a little deeper with it than either mono or braid. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 9, 2008 Super User Posted December 9, 2008 On my primary mhvy spinnerbait rod I use either 15lb realine copoly or will step up to a 17lb on lakes with really thick cover. On my lighter rod I throw 12lb rapala tough. The line is no longer made. It's basically a Trilene XT type of line but a little limper which casts easier. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 9, 2008 Super User Posted December 9, 2008 Hmm... Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 8.5 lb test) Baitcasting gear: Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test) 8-) Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted December 9, 2008 Super User Posted December 9, 2008 Yes...pretty simple for the most part. I use some 4 lb line, but after a recent incident, I'll only fish that in very limited situations. I have also been experimenting this year with #15 Hybrid just because I bought some super cheap, but I don't like the way it handles. Other experiments this year included Gamma #12 and P-Line CX Premium #6. I liked the Gamma, but it's way overpriced. The P-Line broke by hand... 8-) Quote
SoFl-native Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 what kind of line do you guys use when fishing spinnerbaits??? why do you use the type that you do??? 14# XT...usually. Recently spooled some 15# berkley FC. Seems good so far. Low stretch. Quote
basser89 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 For most of my spinnerbait fishing I like 17lb Suffix Siege in Smoke Green. If I'm dealing with gin clear water, I'll switch up to BPS XPS flurocarbon, also 17lb test. Quote
detroit1 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Trilene xl in 6,8,10, or 12# test, depending on what rod i'm using at the time. Why? because that's the only line i use, for any bait/presentation/structure/cover/water. Quote
Stasher1 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I usually use 12# Sufix Elite or 30# Power Pro in heavy cover. On my primary mhvy spinnerbait rod I use either 15lb realine copoly or will step up to a 17lb on lakes with really thick cover. On my lighter rod I throw 12lb rapala tough. The line is no longer made. It's basically a Trilene XT type of line but a little limper which casts easier. I picked up two spools of 12# Rapala line from the clearance bin at Target. They were marked $2.48 and each one came with a free Husky Jerk. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 9, 2008 Super User Posted December 9, 2008 I fish 30# Power Pro Hi Vis Yellow because that is what I have on most all of my setups. I can feel those subtle nudges that mono didn't let me know about. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 10, 2008 Super User Posted December 10, 2008 I use 50# Spiderwire Stealth on all my spinnerbait/buzzbait rigs no matter what the water color is. Quote
