Cravin Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 THE GOOD = That is is an understatement,What a awesome design! Citica's and Curado's and are outstanding reels and by far some of my favorites. They have been flawless in performance, I still have my first Bantam Citica that started my loyal following of Shimano when they were released. THE BAD = Not following the color schemes of the D series. Absolutely the best looking series put out in my opinion. THE UGLY = The green again?... NO!!!! No gold on on the Citica!... Your kidding? So now I'm gonna buy a beautifully designed reel while missing the things I thought Shimano corrected in the "D" series. Maybe I'm petty but I really got tired of looking at the green on my old Curado's, not to mention trying to fit a rod that I thought looked good with it. Can you guess green is not my favorite color? So let's get the Citica then. Boy that black on the handle and spool really kills the luster of the reel, The design is just too pretty not to put a little more flash on it than they did. I will definitely have one of these reels at Christmas and I'm sure I'll love it. I just wanted to vent a little and see if anyone other than me wondered what happened? Do you Loath the Green? does the dulling down on the Citica disappoint? I'm sure after a few cast this will all fade to the back of my mind but right now I have to fork over the cash on one with a slight bit of displeasure, something I haven't felt with a shimano purchase in well over a Decade! FR0G Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I thought the gold on the citica d made it look cheap. And the curado looks awesome in green. The citica looks great too. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted December 7, 2008 Super User Posted December 7, 2008 I agree with frog about the citica, and I like the shape of the new curado but I don't like the green. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 Not a green reel person here either. Quote
jesse893 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I think it's not about the color it's how well the reel performs. I could really care what the color it was as long as it's putting fish in the boat. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 Green is one of my favorite color. I love how they made the reels much smaller...that was my only problem with the 200D series....too big for my little hands. Quote
Hooked_On_Bass Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I think the colour is pretty sweet. I just have to find a rod with the right colour to go with it. Crucial.......Avid........hmmmmm :-/ Quote
FR0G Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Most blanks are black, or dark. I don't see how that doesn't match with green. Oh well, green is one of my favorite colors. And the color that the curado e is, almost matches my trucks color. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 You girls shopping for a purse to match your shoes or what? Short of a reel being hot pink with flowers and butterflies on it, I dont give a crap what it looks like, as long as it performs! Quote
Hooked_On_Bass Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I get much higher performance out of visually pleasing combos. : ;D Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 could be pink is the new black........... Quote
mattm Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Even though I don't like the color of the Curado I agree with bizz if the reel is bada** it could be almost any color. Fortunatley I love the SX's and you can't beat black. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 could be pink is the new black........... Who sells that? Looks like something i want to buy my girl when she goes with me every once in awhile fishing.Be sweet to get her own little set up. Quote
Super User David P Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 You girls shopping for a purse to match your shoes or what?Short of a reel being hot pink with flowers and butterflies on it, I dont give a crap what it looks like, as long as it performs! Cmon now Fourbizz, you don't have to act tough. I saw you at Folsom with your pink and purple combo. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 Thanks for the review. I too like the battleship gray look of the ds for sure but I also think that the new green isn't too bad. I would use a reel based on its performance over looks. Heck, I'd paint my Lambourgini bubble gum pink (base color) with yellow and purple polka dots and drive it around town just to tick people off. ;D Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 Love my E5. May get an E6 next year. Have two 7:1 Shimano baitcasters so will stick with those high speed models. Quote
The Rooster Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I like the looks of the new Curado, but mostly because it reminds me of my BPS Extremes!!! I love the green colors but matching a rod to them is the hardest thing I ever tried to do so I finally just gave up and went for a rod that I know will perform, the Compre. Doesn't match it at all really but it's not ugly either. That's always been a hangup for me, call me a girl if you want to but I think the rods and reels should match whenever possible and it sometimes prevents me from buying one or the other cause of that. Quote
The Rooster Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 By the way I wouldn't fish with those two rods up top there cause they're pink, but they look aweome anyway. Some female is gonna be well pleased to get those. ;D Quote
deadeye32. Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I think the green curado was made to be on a carrot stick. The green just completes the full color of a carrot. Honestly though, who gives a rats badonkadonk, they are great reels no matter what. Quote
freakyfish Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 If thats the onley thing bad is color you guy's can come up with it must be a pretty good reel.I could get use to green. It is the same color as my bass pro extreme. No one would know witch one I was useing. Quote

RockvilleMDAngler Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I could not care less what color it is and I don't understand anyone who does care. It is not a car or clothes or anything that anyone will look at for style. Just fish the mamajama. Quote
TrippyJai Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I don't really care what color it is as long as it's not something ugly like a hot pink. Quote
ghost Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 SHIMANO CURADO E6????? Am I missing something here...that actually will BLOW if they come out w/ an E6 & they won't come out w/a left hand E5. Once again us left handed b/c reel users are left w/ "what the mfg's" think is all we need. We Got left behind when Shimano Came out w/ the D series in the Citicas...no 100DSV & 200DSV. Enough ranting, the green Curado & gray/silver Citica E's look good, no matter which of the rods I put them on. I go for performance first, then color combos....Zillion rod w/ Zillion Reel. Carrot Stix b/c rod w/ Daiwa Sol b/c ree. That's as far as I go w/ trying to match color w/ color. I know I have performance w/ those w/ the colors to boot! Quote
FR0G Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I go for how the reel feels (performance, weight, smoothness), then I look at colors. I mean, most reels nowadays look pretty good, so you don't really have to worry. But, a Daiwa Sol sure would look slick on my carrot stix. Quote
