ghost Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I asked a few days ago if the Citica D would be okay to use for musky fishing. Now how using the new Curado & Citica & Chronarch B's for musky fishing? The new Curado's & Citica's are much smaller than the D's & the Chronarch B's seem that it has the "guts" to handle this type of fishing. I know I could get the Curado 301D, but I don't like the gear ratio & extra weight of this reel. And the new Abu Toro's are heavy & too much money. I want to use said reels for lighter musky tackle for spring time. What's your thoughts???? Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted December 3, 2008 Super User Posted December 3, 2008 Not knocking the Shimanos, but if you looked at Abu Garcia Toro, take a second look at the Revo Winch. Quote
Pigsticker Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I own the E7 and wouldn't want to put that much stress on the reel. Buy a Citica E and beat the hell out of it. In this situation you will get the most bang for your buck with Citica. I would also suggest taking a look at the winch, very nice reel. Quote
DEbassman17 Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 THERE IS NOT ENOUGH LINE CAPACITY ON THOSE REELS, you either need a wide spool reel or a round reel, like a calcutta, none of those reels would suit your needs. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, it's just that for musky fishing you would need a little heavier line than those reels are made for, the curado 301e is the best reel for low profile musky fishing, just my 2 cents. Super User Gone_Phishin Posted December 4, 2008 Super User Posted December 4, 2008 For occasional work they will do ok. I would not use one as a full-time 'ski reel. I would not use the E7 unless you plan on using it for finesse jigs/plastics. You'll want more gusto for pulling big blades and wooden jerks. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted December 4, 2008 Super User Posted December 4, 2008 Actually I believe the Winch is rated for 175 yds of #12. Now if you were to use a super braid on this reel, which I assume you would, I think the line capacity would be more than amble. This thing is made for hauling the mail. JMO Quote
