Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 27, 2008 Super User Posted November 27, 2008 I'm seriously debating on buying another 50mg but I don't know if I should wait. I'd hate not to get one and then be dissapointed with whatever comes out and not be able to find a new 50mg anywhere. Anyone else feel the same? Who has the Core and how do you like it? Don't bother posting about anything other than Shimano. I could care less. Quote

Super User burleytog Posted November 28, 2008 Super User Posted November 28, 2008 Check Tackle Warehouse if you're ready to buy now. They're on sale, plus if you're on the TW mailing list, you'll get 10% off today and tomorrow. That means a 50MG for around $165. Quote
Hooked_On_Bass Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Well........I had 1 Chronarch Mg (that I loved) and when I found out that they were being discontinued I bought two more, so................I don't know what to tell you. Quote
fathom Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 this is a hard one to answer. the 50mg, after the calais 100a, is arguably the best reel shimano has introduced in years. that said, if you already have some 50mg's, i would wait...the next generation is the one reel shimano cannot afford to get wrong...the intro of the new curado e series makes me think shimano is on the right track...then again, if they do get it right, why the heck would we need a core? if shimano really had their thinking caps on, they would design the new 50mg as a smaller part of the new chronarch series...then again, why would we need a core? as far as the new, look for something without heg...as far as the old, am really gonna miss that reel. Super User flechero Posted November 28, 2008 Super User Posted November 28, 2008 I've had a core since 1/08... very nice reel but when i needed another, i bought my 5th 50 MG. A side note- core holds even less line than the 50, so if you use mono, consider that. try a search or two, there have been a few comparison threads on these two reels. Quote
blue cat Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 i have both , there's is big differences, the core has a very good drag you can fish heavier line. the mg50 is more lite line oriented it feels better in my hands.i think the replacement will similar to the new curado.small frame ect. in my business we have sold 1000's of mg50's shimano is discounting them to us,and allowing a price reduction. tight lines you can't go wrong with either Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 1, 2008 Super User Posted December 1, 2008 Heck, you already know what a fine piece of equipment the CH50MG is compared to any other reel. I have a Core which you will like, too. However, if I were considering a new reel, I would probably wait on whatever replaces the CH50MG. If you don't really "need" a reel, wait, but if you're just in the mood...buy a Core. p.s. For those considering their first CH50MG, jump on this deal! 8-) Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted December 2, 2008 Author Super User Posted December 2, 2008 I think I'll wait to see what Shimano comes out with. I really don't need another reel and I'm sure I still be able to find the 50mg if I dont like the new reels. I was just looking to replace my Premier and Curado 100. This is my second Premier. I sent the first one back because of the horrible squeeching noise it makes when you cast it. Cabellas sent me another and it does it to. It seems to be a coin toss with the Premeirs if they grind or not when casted. Quote
bpraz Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I love my 50mg but cant wait to see what replaces it? Quote
dman Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Does anyone know when the new model comes out? Quote
