mossyback v GLX

I am seeking some advice for a friend who is looking for a new rod to throw mostly senkos. He would also like to use it for light t-rig, light jigs, and occasionaly a frog.  He is looking at the 7'5 MH senko cast mossyback or the 7'5 MH GLX . I know these are very subjective questions, but your input is greatly appreciated.

Is the GLX significantly more sensitive and lighter than the mossyback?

Do you think it is worth the extra $140?

When you're dealing in ounces (or less) nothing is significant. The GLX is just a little lighter but a lot more sensitive.

according to Loomis, the mossyback is between the GL3 and IMX.

I have a couple of Mossyback rods, 1 GLX and a couple of IMX rods. I have been very pleased with all my Loomis rods. Though the GLX is a fantastic rod, I think your performance gain is going to be minimal which is why I will be sticking to Mossyback & IMX rods for future purchases.

the mossyback (804) is an excellent rod for dropping plastic into cover and bringing said plastic (with fish attatched) back out of cover...imo, this is more a power presentation than touchy-feely.

the glx (803) is all about touchy-feely...there is reason why it has become the bellweather.

and, imo, is more than worth it.

not an avid or tourny fishermen but,  I did hang up my BassPro rods this year for 3 Loomy's,  2 Mossybacks BCR802 BCR803, and a Spinnerbait rod SBR812C and I love them all, I really couldnt tell you the difference in these or the GLX's but to me $140 bux is alot of $$$, if your buying a few rods like I did then that adds up.  If the rods are givien to you like a sponsership then I'd pitch the GLX'x too.  But I'll take my MB's.

Here's my 2 cents.  I have 7 Loomis rods.  All are either GLX or IMX except two.  My crankbait rod and my flipping stick.  My flipping stick is a Mossyback only because I don't flip for very long otherwise it would have been a GLX.  The crankbait rod is whatever blank Loomis uses.  I won't wast my money buying anything other than GLX or IMX for most of my applications.  I'll go without until I save enough money if I have to.

I'm getting the impression that a company capable of creating such exceptional rods has really made a boatload of crappy rods except for two of their lines.  It makes me wonder how many companies making $200 flagship rods could actually make an exceptional rod at $350 retail.  My guess is most of them.  That kinda makes the argument of "Loomis or Croix??" pretty cut and dry.  At least with St. Croix, you can actually buy a great rod for under 200 bucks and not feel like you've "wasted" your money.  And, if you spend the extra 140, you can still achieve superior crasftsmanship and performance.  I've always been a fan of both companies, but this is a convincing argument in favor of a St. Croix Avid, Legend, or LE.  But, if you do go with a Loomis, obviously, the GLX is the only wise decision.

i also sold an le because it didn't match the bcr glx.

Salamander,  I somewhat agree with the first part of your statement about Loomis only having two superior rods but that doesnt mean the Mossyback, GL2 and 3 are Junk.  If Loomis stopped producing the IMX or GLX then I would have to rod shop all over again, testing many brands.  I've owned St. Croix and like there rods but I like Loomis better.  I do feel as though you are way off base about the entire St. Croix line being "great" rods.  What does a rod have to live up to to be "great"?  I am 100% confident with ANY rod you put in my hands but I choose Loomis because I can afford to AND there is a huge diference in the way they fish over most rods on the market.

Salamander I can't comment on St. Criox rods because I don't own any but in my expierience the Mossyback is a fantastic rod for a little over a 200$. This rod is a major step up over the GL2 & GL3 rods, similiar to the IMX in my opinion. Their are certain/lengths & actions that are only available in this line that are not available in the IMX so my choice is dependant on what I'm using it for. I can afford the GLX I just choose not to spend the extra money. I feel if you need a sensitive rod for deep water applications you can be very confident in an IMX or a Mossyback if you want to spend the extra on a GLX you'll be very happy as well.

In my opinion, the best bang for your buck on any of the Loomis lines is the IMX. There really isn't a whole lot of difference from the IMX to the GLX on any level.

it's not that other lines are junk, but the IMX & GLX are just so good that the rest are weak by comparison and other brands do as well as those other lines for less.

True, but if you fish other high-end rods and $100 isn't that important

to you, you will enjoy the slight difference.
