westpalmfrogpunk Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Ok I am looking for a new soft plastics rod. Mainly I through tubes and senkos and trick worms. I sometimes will use it for a creature bait. I am living in west palm so mainly this will be shallow water with thick grass and some heavy cover. The two rods that I am looking at are the LTB Teaser or the Shaw grigsby PT Rod . I am also thinking about the New Mojo version of the LTB rod. Any input on these would be helpful . Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 26, 2008 Super User Posted November 26, 2008 I don't know what any of those letters mean but if you are fishing grass then you will need some upmh in the rod. I use mostly good quality M F 6.5' rods but you may need a MH. Quote
bigfruits Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 i would definately get the LTB over the mojo. better sensitivity and lifetime warranty. mojo has 5 yr. Quote
westpalmfrogpunk Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 I was thinking the same thing BigFruits. The Lengend Tournament Bass does have the life time warranty and so does the Quantum PT. You think the extra money would be worth it. Quote
booneangler Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Cumara is what i would go with. Those shimano rods are nice i have 3. Quote
bigfruits Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 id pick the ltb even if they both had lifetime warranties. you want a sensitive rod for soft plastics. it really depends on how much think the extra sensitivity is worth to you. keep in mind ive never used either rod. i have a ltb spinning finesse rod waiting for me at home. i have owned premiers (same graphite as mojo) and they were not bad at all. think of it this way, as long as you dont lose/sink your rod and you have 60 bucks in your pocket, you will always have your ltb rod. ive broken way too many rods so this is worth alot to me. you can also find good deals on ebay on Loomis IMX rods that actually have a better warranty than st. croix. they ship first and you get free shipping. they do not offer the split grips youre looking for however. westpalmfrogpunk Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 I like the loomis warranty but. I have fished a few loomis rods I really do not care for the grips. I know its a loomis but for me its not the right feel. I would like to here peoples opinions on the Shaw grigsby rod too. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 27, 2008 Super User Posted November 27, 2008 I own the St. Croix 7' M/F LTB "Teaser" rod, and while it is my favorite rod, it is not the rod I would chose for fishing heavy grass and cover. I would go up to a MH power rod at the least, and personaly, I would probably use a H power rod myself. Quote
westpalmfrogpunk Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 Farmer would you think the frog and slop rod might be the way to go. I have a TD lt frog that doubles as a pithicn a flipping stick . So I was thinking the LTB slop rod may be a good plastics rod and double as a frog rod when I am skipping docks and overhangs. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 27, 2008 Super User Posted November 27, 2008 I also have the LTB "frog and slop", but it is not my favorite frog rod or pitching rod. That honor belongs to my 6'10" Avid MHF, it's a powerfull rod, rated up to 1 1/4 oz, the shorter lenght makes it much MUCH easier to skip frogs, the shorther length also makes it IMHO a better pitching rod. It's a telescoping rod which some people might not care for, but I don't mind it. One problem................St Croix doesn't make it any more, I see there a few on e-bay now, I got mine new last year when the older Avids were on clearance, wish I would have bought another. Quote
