I want to set up a combo for my swimbaits. I do not have any big baits just medium size up to 3oz maximum. I believe the Okuma will be the best rod, but the reel, I have no clue. Do I need 7 to 1 ratio, A wide spool, what is recommended? Please help. Thanx.

I'd make the decision after knowing what kind of budget you want to fit this reel into.  Since you are after a reel for med sized SB's you have a lot more flexibility and don't have to break the bank.

Have you decided on a price range?

I own Shimano  Cardiffs, Calcutta B's, and Calcutta TE's in swimbait sizes.

Those size baits I would prefer a Cardiff. If they made a Calcutta 300B it would be the winner, no contest.

I feel that my TE was not worth the money. Performs great, but I would WAY rather have a Calcutta B and a Cardiff instead of one TE.

The Calcutta 300TE is a great swimbait reel, that is what I bought.  Don't discount the Curado 300.  I went Musky fishing with a guide this past summer that used a 300D for some of his smaller lures.

You could probably find the 300D for a good price now that the new ones are out.  I got my 300D for about $90 at a Cabelas Bargain Cave sale in MN.

I was hoping to stay under $250, but as you all pointed out the proper reel may cost a bit more. Thank You all for the advise. I now have a place to start. Is high speed reels preferred for a medium size swimbait?

In the $250 range, don't overlook the Team Daiwa Luna. Check out Tackle Tour's holiday gift list. They recommend the Luna. great round reel.

You may also wnat to take a look at the St Croix Avid reels. they are Daiwa Millionaires. Daiwa, in their infinite wisdom, discontinued the line, but still builds them for St Croix. great reels. I have three of them.

You can easily get Fourbizz's recommendation, brand new and delivered to your door for under $100.  (I just bought one, NIB for $80)  I've also heard Matt (of Mattlures) recommend the Cardiff 300 on several occasions, for those not wanting to break the bank.

.

Same here. Yo save close to 2 oz on weight and perfect performance....and I don't give a crap about breaking the bank with fishing reels.
