bronzeback01 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 i don't own an avid but i love my IMX but i'm in the market for a new 7' MH and the avid is almost 100 bucks cheaper than the IMX is the IMX that much better than the avid ? Quote
Super User flechero Posted November 23, 2008 Super User Posted November 23, 2008 That question depends on your needs, budget and perspective. IMX and SCIII are not equals but depending on what you do with them, either could be the right choice for you. As for the hundred bucks, look at it this way- if you keep it 5 years, that's only about $0.38 per week! Quote
Ldavis Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I don't own a IMX but I own several Avids. The Avids are great rods light and sensitive. I have the 6'M,6'3 MXF,6'6M and the 6'8MXF. The rods seem to be a little stronger than they are rated for. For me the 6'6 M is a great all purpose rod. What type of fishing will you be doing with the rod? Quote
bronzeback01 Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 It will be used a an all purpose spinning rod senkos spinnerbaits crankbaits jigs plugs etc. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 23, 2008 Super User Posted November 23, 2008 I can not speak for the MH. I had a Gloomis MH and traded it for a M. I do have the Gloomis M and Avid M rods. I find that the Avid will handle heavier baits than the Gloomis but the Gloomis is a bit more sensitive. I wouldn't give up either one of them. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 23, 2008 Super User Posted November 23, 2008 For an all purpose rod I'd go with the avid. Quote
Flywatersmallie Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Go with the Avid! I have a few and love them... I have an IMX too and I actually prefer the Avids. Get a combo for the same price as the IMX. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 24, 2008 Super User Posted November 24, 2008 I have five St. Croix, three Avids and two Legend Elite. They are fine rods, but I still prefer G.Loomis. That said, for what you are looking for in an "all-around" rod, the Avid AVS68MXF or AVS70MF would be my suggestions. On the other hand, both the SJR784S and the SJR844S are standards in the IMX series. There is nothing not to like, other than perhaps, the price! 8-) Quote
mjbfsh07 Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I own the 6'10" Drop Shot Avid Rod. It is a great rod for tubes, small worms and 4" senkos..........For the money that you would be spending.....I would go with a Premiere Rod from St. Croix save some money and get yourself another reel. That way you will have two set-ups. Over time you can figure what baits you throw the most and go get an avid that is perfect for that bait. Just my two cents Quote
