ok so here's the story, me and my family went down to k-mart to do some holiday shopping, not for each other but for aunts and uncles and cousins. So i was like what the h*** i'll go down to the fishing department. Not the much there, some bargain deals on lures but i really didn't need any. So then i went to the line section. There was one box of ORIGINAL spiderwire in 20 lb test. I coudn't believe it haha so i picked it up and asked my dad if i could have it for christmas. He said yeah so now i'm gonna have some great line for the combo i'm getting for christmas(curado 201e7 and Berkley lightning rod shock 6'6" MH rod). How do you guys like original spiderwire? anyone ever used it? i heard it was great and that people were actually angy because berkley stopped manufacturing it. So i jumped at the opportunity.

I didnt know they discontinued it.... Its readily available around here, has been for years. I have used it in the past, there are better lines out there(power pro comes to mind) , but it does what it should. If I recall, it was pretty pricey back in the day, like $18 or something for a spool. That still the case?

yea it's still pricey i have used some guy's reels at the pond i fish and he used it and i loved it. i can't find it anywhere so when i saw it i practically s*** myself haha.

I've been using Spiderwire since it was first introduced. I prefer the second generation Original which has a little more body to it than the first generation. The 6/30 is my favorite size, I wish it was still in production. I still have some partial spools of the Original. All of their new stuff has a larger diameter in the same pound test. This is one case where newer is not better.

I wasn't aware that Berkley had any involvement in the Spiderwire brand, but both Spiderwire and Berkley are owned by Pure Fishing.

I like the original the best haha. What you said about berkley and spiderwire is probley true, i just see people in tournaments that are sponsered by berkley and they fish both fireline and spiderwire... that's why i said it haha. I don't like spiderwire stealth, or invisibraid, just the really really old stuff.

Spiderwire is now second rate IMO. Have fun burning fingers and cutting out huge amounts of line from a simple backlash. There are so many better choices now it's funny that you would say haha. You will find out the joke is on you. Newer braids are much more advanced and easier to handle. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but, that was a impulse buy that you will problably regret.

Remember to use the same diameter mono as backing on your E7 so you can get more use from less Spiderwire on the reel and the line will last so much longer as you are not using an entire spool of the line at one time.

If you have trouble with backlashes, may I suggest rigging the Curado with mono backing  of the same diameter of the Spiderwire with about 75 to 100 yards of the Spiderwire; then go outside and cast it as far as you can; then take one or two arms length of Spiderwire off the Curado; take some electrical tape or Scotch tape and place it over the remaining line on your reel.

The tape will stop the backlashes from going deeper.

As for your Original Spiderwire, keep using it until it is gone and keep going out and have some fun fishing with it.

Start to use other brands to see how they perform as compared to the Original Spiderwire.  

Just go out and do some fishing!

thanks! i have tried a few other brands, i don't like fireline, i like power pro on spinning reels, sufix is ok(had a lot of windknots). I'll keep trying new stuff.
