Crankbait reel

I' lookin to get a new crankin reel before the spring.  Anyone have any suggestions for a decently priced reel.  Right now I'm using an old Pro Qualifier round reel and love it.  Thinking maybe a shimano cardiff or getting an energy from ebay for around $100 or so

I have a friend who uses a BPS Davit Fritts crankbait reel and he really likes it.  They go for about $80 from Bass Pro Shops.  Also it might be more than you want to spend but Abu has a new Revo Winch that is made for crankbaits/spinnerbaits.  You can get them on Ebay for around $160.

I recommend it highly.  It will flat-out fling a crank bait.

I have a friend who uses a BPS Davit Fritts crankbait reel and he really likes it.

I bought one last year and it is a really good reel for the price. It casts a mile, has a smooth drag, and it makes a DD22 feel like you're reeling in slack line.

I throw all my cranks on a 6.3:1, but I generally power fish cranks.  KVD uses a 7:1, but that's even out of my league  .

I laid a Revo Winch on a parabolic carrot stix and love it for cranks.  The Revo works beautifully.  Unless your into consistantly burning cranks, you'll love this reel.

I use BPS Extreme 5.4 : 1 for my crankin'. They work realy good.

They both seem to be almost identical reels...same braking system as well.

I'm impressed with the BPS dave fritts reel as well.

I still can't figure out the braking system on it...I must have asked 3-4 people so far and still can't figure it out.Every time i try to get the brake pin out on it hits the covering panel.I'm an idiot or something.

My shimanos do not do this at all.

I don't know, but that's probably its weak point.  It's got a deep spool and takes a lot of line.  I suspect a light bait would have a hard time getting all that mass to move.  I've only used it with heavier baits.  I have a Revo STX 6.4:1 on a 6'6" Fenwick I use for small and light crankbaits.

Are you talking about the screw that holds the palming plate (the left side of a right handed reel) on?

When you access the brake pins(those little hats) pull them out to turn the brake on the plate will not close.Those little pins seem to stick out too far that it hits and rubs on the inside of that plate.

Yea the trion cranking reel is great. I can't get enough of it and brand new are $100 with warrenty can't beat that.

I was curious on how to adjust the brakes on the trion.  But to remove the brake off of the pin I would have to do something with the red peice that holds the brake back.  How do you go about this?  Full brakes work for me just fine but I don't get the distance I would like so I was thinking about adjusting it.

You can simply use pressure to pop them off since they are flexible, or you can use tweezers to pull the red retainer out - its spring loaded.  Just don't lose the little plastic parts.

Are they easy to get back on to?  Would it be ok to take off just one brake?

I would remove in pairs from opposite sides, but really, most people that I know use these don't do anything at all.
