As we know Christmas is coming up and i need a new spinnning rod.  wat would you guys suggest, it will be mainly used for smallies.  jw wat a good all around rod would be for all applications.  thanks.

My favorite Smallie rod is my St. Croix Avid 7' ML, Fast action. I use it for primarily for drop shotting, but it also is a great rod for 4" senkos, small jigs and tubes, and split shot rigs. If  I had to only keep one of my spinning rods it would be this one.

I had that same rod but now I use a MF Legend Tournament. I would suggest a Medium or Medium Heavy rating (in whatever rod you get, not necessarily a LT) instead of a Medium Light because it will be more versatile as far as what types of lures you can throw.

I fish a St. Croix Legend Elite ES70MF. If you don't want to spend that much,

I would suggest the Avid AVS70MF or AVS68MXF. This is the rod I use for all

soft plastics and can be used for a variety of light and medium weight lures.

I have a g loomis bsr803 mossyback, a st croix legend tournament tube, a gloomis imx sjr 783s a daiwa steez and a g loomis smr 811sp bronzeback and by far the bronzeback is my favorite smallmouth rod.

jw wat a good all around rod would be for all applications.

Without getting into specific brands, I think a 6.5-7' medium power with fast action makes for a good general-purpose rod.

my favorite rod is my kistler magnesium ts 6'6" M action spinning rod. my go to lure is the shakey head and it's an awsome rod for that. but also throw jerkbaits and flukes on it alot. awsome rod and u can find them on ebay for about 120 bucks with shipping. the new argon's are pretty sweet as well just don't have a spinning rod yet.

Depends on the size of baits you wanna fish with it and the size of the smallies. I have been served well by the St Croix Avid AVS66MLF but then again, I throw a lot of tiny cranks (Salmo Hornets, Rebel Teeny Wee Craws and the like), jig/plastic combos and 3" Senkos to fish where 5lbers are not common, lots of small fish. Obviously this is a more specialized tool for these smaller fish and smaller baits. You might want to bump up to a medium in the same line if the average fish or baits are bigger. I love the Avid series! A perfect combination of performance and value in my opinion

I agree with most of the above, I own several ML, M and MH power spinning rods, but stand by my "opinion" that the ideal SM rod for me is my 7' ML Avid. I fish waters where big fish are not rare (Erie, Oneida, Finger Lakes etc...) this rod has handled many 5 and 6lb class fish on 6lb Flurocarbon line for me with ease, so it has the power, and, forgiveness that IMHO is a must in a SM spinning rod.

i see you live in oh.  im not sure if your smallmouth fishing out on lake erie or inland creeks, rivers, or lakes?  for fishing out on the lake i like the kistler he76ms.  its a perfest action and power to throw anything and has the right length for a good hookup in deep water.  plus the extra length really absorbs the fast lunges of big smallies.  if your looking for a smaller rod for fishing light lures, i like the mgdsfwml69s.  its perfect for any soft plastic and it also throws small jerkbaits and minnow baits really well.

id get a avid 6ft6 med fast ... great all around spinning rod ... good for smallys or largees ... also depending on how you fish you may concider the 7ft med fast ... personally for me i use the 6ft6 ,, but i fish rivers and i tend to walk the river with waiders ... so the 6ft6 is easy to move through what ever i may incounter ,,, it also is great for many different baits ... now if i had a boat there is no doubt in my mind id get the 7fter ...

i have a Daiwa Tierria 6'6 med lite and a 6'6 med i use them both for large and small mouth with no problem. also have a St.Croix Triumph 6'6 ml,but the first time i set the hook it broke . they replaced it,but i dont trust it any more.but the Daiwa's i beat up and they still work fine.
