scooter11 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 hey guys, ive fished mono for my line exclusively since ive started fishing. i usually use 12 lb test, it seems to work all around for the fishing i do. i did alot of fishing at a pond by me this year that is gridlocked with heavy weeds. i caught some great fish this year and lost some great fish this year. as a result i wanted to try fishing with braid. if im pitching 3/4oz jigs or brush hawgs with a slip sinker, what pound test would be best for fishing heavier cover? The_Natural Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I don't fish with braid due to the manageability issues (who ever thought a line could be too limp?!) I've tried it twice, but just couldn't get used to fishing with sewing thread. That said, I can't deny that braid excels in grass. It has the ability to slice through grass like no mono or fluoro can. If I fished heavy grass constantly, I'd probably try heavy fluoro first, and then go with braid if it wasn't handling it. You may love braid....people either seem to love it or hate it. I just happen to be the latter, although I am aware of the benefits. Update us after you have fished it and let us know how it worked out. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 16, 2008 Super User Posted November 16, 2008 50 # at least. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 16, 2008 Super User Posted November 16, 2008 Minimum 30-pound test. 50-pound test will also do very well. Quote
scooter11 Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 thanks for the help guys, ill let you know how i feel about it after i try it. Quote
adclem Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Power Pro 50lbs is what I use. It is the same size diameter as 12lbs mono. Later, Quote
scooter11 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 well i bought a 200yd spool of 17 pound flourocarbon and im gonna go get some braid tomorrow. im gonna spool a reel with each to try it. hopefully it works well and ill keep you posted. thanks Quote
SimonSays Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I've found that 15lb+ fluoro is kinda like thick plastic wire...jumps off the spool llike no tomorrow. All except the trilene 100%, but even that gets unmanageable (for me atleast) in the higher tests. Quote
