pro qualifier rods/reels vs. extreme rods/reels

anyone have experience with both? I really like the looks of the new pro qualifier baitcaster and bass pro has some really good deals on their combos. BUT,  right now you can get an extreme rod/reel combo for 99.00! that is about half price and they make their extreme reels in three different gear combos. right now I have a mish mash of equipment, different reels and different rods, and I think I am gonna sell some stuff and get more " matched sets" whether they be bass pro stuff, cabelas, or a certain type rod and one brand of reel. any input from folks who have used both the extreme rod or reel or the pro qualifier rods and reels, including spinning gear. Thanks so much

I have several BPS reels and they are just fine. I don't understand why you would want to sell your old stuff at probably less than 25 cents on the dollar if it functions well. I too have a mish mash with a few combos and the mish maashes work just as well.

I have a lot of experience with BPS rods and reels, Extreme rods and above, and a couple different lower end casting reels, and I cannot find fault with any of the stuff I have.  It all works very well, especially considering the cost.  It is all very cost effective.

One possible down side to the reels is that professional reel servicers often do not service them , and reels are getting so darned complicated that I cannot confidently take them apart and put them back together again without having a few extra parts lying around.  If you want to have them serviced by the better reel guys, then buy a name brand reel.  Of course, BPS services their own stuff, but the last time a friend of mine tried to get it done, there was a 6 month time involved in a job that I did in about 15 minutes.

I have fished these BPS Products , my experience with each:

BPS EXTREME BAITCAST REELS; great , and reliable products. I have sent them twice to the supplied BPS location for Breakdown and lube, both times the turn around was less than 20 days. I had one reel they felt needed a gear change they did it , told me and did not charge me extra, even though I bought it used and did not have a warranty

BPS EXTREME SPINNING REELS, Current model; the worst piece of equipment I have bought in years. Line goes under everywhere it possibly can, nothing compared to either the Pflueger Trion or President , which cost less

BPS PRO QUALIFER ROUND AND LP BAITCASTER; Great reels, bought them all used and they are wonderful and dependable products

BPS EXTREME RODS SPIINING AND TRIGGER: This rod is a wondeful rod especially when on sale for 70 bucks, which is several times a year I prefer the Cabelas Fish Eagle II but I These rods are great buys and hold up well. MY Favorite is the 6'10" MH 8-)

I get to use all this because we buy a lot of used BPS stuff here for our giveaway program and we use the stuff if we can to match rods and reels correctly and to figure out who should get what and what needs to be cleaned and lubed. I have had 2 Pro Qualiffier Rods pass through my hands, but they came in and went out too soon to use them, so I have a lot of first hand experience with these products. I also use a couple I have purchased for myslef, because of this experience.

In 15 years I have given away almost 100 rods and reels, About 60% have been BPS branded products.

I use BP Extreme combos for just about everything...bass, redfish, trout, crappie, and even occassional catfish. I have 10-12 different extreme combos and have caught many fish on them. I have yet to have a single issue with any of them.

However, i do like the older version bc they have centrifigal braking vs the new magnetic system.

I actually like the spinning reel very much BUT they are not as good as my Abu 700s. They are some of the best equipment i have used!

The casting rods and spinning rods are very tough, good sensitivity, and good balance. They are not as light as a loomis or as sensitive...but certainly good enough to NOT be at a disadvantage.

I have both and enjoy both... 6'6'' MH spinning extreme  and a 6'6'' M BC Pro Qualifier.

Hey Big Rick: Same deals in this years Christmas Catalog. I want to get one more, but I am thinking maybe they are going to change them next year and put them on clearance cheaper.

I used the 6'6" MHF extreme casting rod for awhile, sensitivity is average, I put them as "noticeably less sensitive" than a St croix Premier.  However for the sale price of $70, it's a good deal

I have used both extreme and pro qualifier rods. I haven't used either of the reels. The extreme rods are pretty good quality, durable and pretty sensitive for their price range. However, now i exclusively use the pro qualifier for all of my casting rods. They are so sensitive you can feel the slightest bite. There is a noticeable difference between the two.

I have 4 of the extreme rods 7ft med.hvy. I use them for plastics, jigs, and sincos. I like them just fine but I have never used a real high dollar rod. I have had 4 of the little round chrome reels for at least 6 years , no problems. I have 2 Rick Clunn reels that I really like. I have 1 extreme reel that broke something inside a couple of years ago. I sent it back to BPS for repair. It took a couple of months to get it back but they didn't charge me a cent. They even payed the return postage.

I've never used the PQ rods, but I have three Extremes in my "collection". Two casting rods (7'0" MH, and 6'6" MH Woo Daves worm/jig) and one spinning rod (6'8" ML Woo Daves split-grip rod).

They're a real good buy if you get them during the Spring Classic for $59, but I'd pass on them at their regular price of $99.

I'm not overly impressed with my Extreme casting rods, but I like the spinning rod a good bit for Trickworms and floating worms. I don't use it for anything else, so I can't offer any info on how well it does with different techniques.

EDIT: I caught the one in my avatar on my ML Extreme spinning rod. I was sure it was going to break in half as I was trying to yank the fish out of the weeds, but it didn't.

I now have 3 of the Extreme baitcast reels in my arsenal. They are the only ones I use for casting reels, I sold all the others in favor of them. Looking at the new Pro Qualifier reel compared to the Extreme I saw very little differences. The handle crank and star drag looked different and it uses centrifugal braking instead of the ITB system that the Extreme uses but that was about it. Otherwise same number of bearings. I personally love the ITB braking that my Extreme uses, I can cast straight into the wind with it and get no backlashes so I'm sold on it.

Extreme reels - Reliable.  Good casters.  The ITB system does a very good job.  New ones should be lubed out of the box as they seem to scrimp at the factory.

Pro Qualifier reels - I used the PQ reels that were previously sold.  7 bearings.  Another solid reel, no problems.

I have no experience using either in a spinning reel.  As with any BPS branded product, service is required to be done at BPS.  If you fix your own reels the parts department in Springfield is very helpful.

Extreme rods - Had a couple 6'6" Mhvy's.  Sensitivity was OK.  My All stars are so much better and the Extremes are heavier than most other rods in that price range.  Like any BPS product,  wait for the sales.  At $99 total for a combo,  you really can't get much lower than that.  

Pro Qualifier rods - No experience.

I have both extreme and pro qualifier bait caster reels. I like both of them a lot. I would have to say that I favor the extreme reel in function ability. It just casts so much smoother but looks wise man I love the look of my pro qualifier. It looks so much better however I’ll be buying another extreme reel instead
