Stingray23 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I just bought 2 of these rods. Bass Pro shops Pro Qualifier Lmt 6'6" MH casting rods. They are Not the redone 08 rods(even though they were advertised as such)Any of you have these rods? Do you have pictures of them so I can verify that they are indeed the same? I feel like I got ripped off in buying something falsely advertised. Quote
Super User Micro Posted November 11, 2008 Super User Posted November 11, 2008 I just love it when I type a lengthy reply, proof read it, hit post, then the forum craps out and my post is lost. > Here's the short answer. The "real" PQ rods should be nice. They're $140 rods. They should say "70 Million Modulus" on them, the blank should be marbled, and the guides should be Fuji Alconite. They should look like this... ...'07 rods had forends. BPS has a nasty habit of taking a cheap combo and labeling it PQ for the holidays. Someone buys it thinking they are getting the real PQ when really they just bought a cheap rod labled PQ. BTW, what does "Lmt" mean? "Limited?" If so, real PQs aren't "Limited." I think that's a clue that it's lower end. Quote
Stasher1 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 The "standard" PQ's are about $140 and I've seen the other PQ's on sale at my local BPS for less than $40. Obviously not the same rods. Quote
Stingray23 Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 My rods look nothing like those. Quote
Stingray23 Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 I found out that the rods were a limited edition run of rods and reels by BPS. Hence the name Pro Qualifier Ltd. They retailed for $99 at BPS. Quote
Super User Micro Posted November 11, 2008 Super User Posted November 11, 2008 Welcome to BPS's "Bait and Switch Sale." Happens every year. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 11, 2008 Super User Posted November 11, 2008 You've been had. Quote
Stingray23 Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 I already spoke to the guy I bought them off of and am returning them this week. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 11, 2008 Super User Posted November 11, 2008 BASSPRO does this every year. It is a shame, I really love a lot of their stuff, they really do not have to do this.We had a similar thread running the last 2 years GEEZZZZZ :-/ Quote
TrippyJai Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I don't know much about rods so I will never buy a rod that is BPS branded. I will never know if the rod is worth $140 or that I got ripped off. Not to mention, there is like a billion different type of rods and it is confusing. Quote
The Rooster Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Stick with the nicer Shimano rods and problem solved. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 What was it we ran into last year Muddy.? Was it BPS Extreme rods of some sort? I know you and I were involved somehow. The model #'s of something didn't match if I remember right. Kind of sad that BPS takes such a cheap shot like this. Just sell whatever it is straight up no gimmicks. Not quite apples to apples but imagine Laborghini putting a ltd edition Diablo out that is a Lambo body on a Ford Focus ???? We can vote with our pocketbooks or complain to BPS Quote
The Rooster Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 I do think they make some good rods overall. That PQ lmt. rod might be a good one too but they should have just changed it's name to something other than "Pro Qualifier" if it's not one of those. Like fish-fighin-illini said, just sell whatever it is straight up. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 12, 2008 Super User Posted November 12, 2008 The Rods on the Extreme and Pro Qualifier combos, last Christmas were not the current ones . The reels were right but the rods were switched out to look alike ,cheaper rods. . ALWAYS CHECK THE ROD NUMBERS< THE SUBSTITUE RODS ARE LABELED WITH DIFFERENT NUMBER TAGS! Whats weird is several times a year the combos with the right rods go on sale , I think they take advantage of the fact that a lot of newer people buy at this time. Quote
adclem Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 That is too bad that they do stuff like that. Really can be upsetting to the new guy getting started and thinking he is getting an awesome deal to only find out he has the bait and switch pulled on him. They also are famous for having higher prices in the stores and on-line and cheaper prices in their catalogs. At least they will honor the catalog pricing. Later, Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted November 13, 2008 Super User Posted November 13, 2008 Were the rods you bought purple or orange? Did they have a front cork? May have been last years model but I doubt it with the LTD. The purple and orange rods are LTD and are available only in store, not online. Oranges are Vipers and can't remember the purple ones name. The usually are paired with a matching Pro Qualifier LTD reel of the same color for $99. Considerably lower quality than the standard Pro Qualifier, which I believe is an outstanding rod when purchased for $79 during the Spring Classic. Quote
Stingray23 Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 The rods were actually gray. Cork handles, 7 guides, and it says !M-8 carbon. They were 6'6" MH, but they felt more like Med. I returned them this morning. When I get my money back, I'll be buying something else. Quote
volfan60 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I am pretty sure I bought the same rods. I purchased them from e-bay. They seem to be pretty good rods I hope I was'nt fooled. Quote
Stingray23 Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 I also bought mine off of ebay. Quote
volfan60 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I just looked and there are still more for sale. Are they not good quality Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 13, 2008 Super User Posted November 13, 2008 HEY ; Can one of you fellas put the rod #'s up. Right over the handle, there are identification #'s. We can compare them to the actual rods, right on line and tell you if they are the correct or "LTD" models Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 "Limited Edition" seems to be the words to look out for. A couple years back it was the Extreme Limited Edition. And last Christmas it was the Pro-Qualifier Limited Edition. These might be decent rods, but they are not the rods people think they are getting. This is a deceiving practice at best, and I would expect better from Bass Pro. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted November 13, 2008 Super User Posted November 13, 2008 I know BPS has the "XPS" rods that they pair with extreme reels instore for the price of the reel...but it sounds like this is an E-Bay problem...which is usually a misinformtion situation...BPS does sell the LTDs but at a fraction of the price of the others....don't think it has anything to do with them Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 13, 2008 Super User Posted November 13, 2008 Thats a good point Big Rick, this is not coming directly from Bass Pro, this time. Quote
