21farms Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 the new pflueger president2: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_103342 Quote
Jeff P. Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Very nice looking reel. I had a President bc and it was my favorite reel, but I switched over to using LH retrieve and had to find a different reel. I wish Pflueger made the President in LH. Quote
Joe Boss Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 What a great looking reel, I think this has to go on my Christmas wish list. Now if they could only make a pflueger president2 spinning reel with an aluminum body life would be perfect. Quote
Super User Micro Posted October 31, 2008 Super User Posted October 31, 2008 I saw that today. Then I checked the Pflueger website and it's not listed there, yet. It's a great looking reel. And that is a killer price. Looks like Pflueger is going aggressive. The new Patriach and now the Prez2. Awesome looking reels, and no doubt great performers. Pure Fishing must be trying to save on manufacturing costs. That screw that holds the side plate was an original on the Revo, now Pflueger/BPS reels are heading that way. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted October 31, 2008 Super User Posted October 31, 2008 Hey Micro: Cosmetically it looks like the BPS NITRO was a "knock off" of this, but it got on the market first! Different colors but the side plates, handle drag and spool tension knob all look pretty similar. One less bearing kinda like the difference between the old Prop Qualifier and the Supreme We kind of suspected it was happening soon. I have stated I fish with a lot of fellas this way that are major Pflueger Fans, and our local reel shop guy said it would happen after the new year. Cabelas put the old presidents on sale for 109 in the bargin cave 3 weeks ago to make room for the newer version. If the upgrade the Trion I am gonna stockpile a couple of the older ones if they discount them, as I am more than satisfied with the current model. ABU once again became the industry leader for design, as first Shimano now Pflueger are getting their profiles more in line with the Revo! Quote
Super User Micro Posted October 31, 2008 Super User Posted October 31, 2008 Now that Abu and Flooger are both owned by Pure Fishing, is suspect similarities are more than just incidental. Bob Hulme, Service Manager for Abu, told me the service center for Abu and Flooger are going to be at the same place - Pure Fishing World HG in Iowa. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted November 1, 2008 Super User Posted November 1, 2008 Now that Abu and Flooger are both owned by Pure Fishing, is suspect similarities are more than just incidental. Bob Hulme, Service Manager for Abu, told me the service center for Abu and Flooger are going to be at the same place - Pure Fishing World HG in Iowa. I took the crank plate off a Patriarch and attempted to put it onto the Revo. The mechanics lined up exactly, the only difference was the overall ergonomics of the case design. Notice the handle attachment!! I haven't seen a Pflueger with a handle nut used on their premium reels in quite a few years. Quote
21farms Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 my initial thought was that it looked very similar to the new BPS pro qualifier. here they are side-by-side Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 1, 2008 Super User Posted November 1, 2008 It seems a lot the lp reels are being redesigned in the form of the Revo! Quote
21farms Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 It seems a lot the lp reels are being redesigned in the form of the Revo! well, you could say that...one could also say it is "badge engineering" (a la general motors) if memory serves me correctly, it was actually daiwa that pioneered many of the features we see in modern reels, including the low-profile, gearbox-slung-over-the-side design Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 2, 2008 Super User Posted November 2, 2008 Using the Zoom function on BPS site, it shows that it also has the Summit shaped spool/ Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted November 2, 2008 Super User Posted November 2, 2008 i'd buy one in a minute!!! Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 2, 2008 Super User Posted November 2, 2008 i'd buy one in a minute!!! TIMES UP! Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted November 2, 2008 Super User Posted November 2, 2008 Those reels appear to be seperated at birth. Quote
Boogey Man Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 I like the looks of it, especially the narrow spooled version. Hey Muddy, how many Floogers do ya have to have to be a Mook ;D? Quote
Boogey Man Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Well, then I'm a Mook, just didn't know it! Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 2, 2008 Super User Posted November 2, 2008 Welcome to Mookdom! Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted November 2, 2008 Super User Posted November 2, 2008 Don't be a commie !!! Cast your vote for the Mook party this Tuesday !! Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted November 3, 2008 Super User Posted November 3, 2008 Very nice looking reel. I had a President bc and it was my favorite reel, but I switched over to using LH retrieve and had to find a different reel. I wish Pflueger made the President in LH. i wish all of the reel companies made all their reel's with a left-hand retreive along with the right-hand retreive . i wonder what the percentage is between right and left hand retreive users . any one know or any guesses ??? Quote
MSPbass Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I heard this was coming, but I didn't think it would be this big of a change. The Pres 1 is a reel that holds its own against, well, all of them. (IMHO) I'm hoping someone pulls the trigger on a Pres 2 soon and can give a review. Even better if they could compare it to the P1! I've been planning on a Pres 1 and a new frog rod, but after a couple new Patriarchs, I was told that would have to wait. Quote
