I just don't get it. Are they just culturally more inclined to fancy things, or are Americans just frugal? It seems like their products are much more modern design oriented than American versions

Redlinerobert, awhile back I asked you about having some work done on a reel and you left me with contact info which I haven't used yet.  I now have a revo sx on a carrot and want to have the spool, handle, and cast control done in a burnt orange.  I know you can't give exact pricing, but can you tell me about what I am looking at.  As with most people, especially nowadays, I need to be frugal and am just wondering if I can swing it.

Thanks, Brian

isn't that look achieved by color case hardening? if so, not only does it look cool but it makes the finish much more durable as well.

I don't think that's color case hardening.  It looks more like some trick titanium deposition or anodization finish.

yes, i think you're right. i looked up tackle tour's review of some quantum reels with that same look and they said it was hi-temp titanium deposition which is "actually extremely hard, and much more durable and scratch resistant than the painted finish of traditional reels"
