SENKOSAM Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 With all the new lures constantly hitting the market, it's interesting to note which will be filling the bargain bins next year. Is the Chatterbait (and k/o's) still catching fish? What trailer has been the best for you? A fishing bud catches picks on them but few bass, but for the absurd price, I'd just as soon use a spinnerbait if that's all I'm going to catch. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 The only success I had with them is successfully selling them to somebody on ebay. Quote
bocabasser Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 the chatterbait bite is not here yet. when the cold fronts start rolling in down here, the chatter will definitely be a major fish catcher. Quote
Guest Wiimote_Angler Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 I caught some fish with a booyah knockoff. The paint chipped off of mine so easily and I'm not sure if that affects how well it catches fish. Oh well. Quote
tyrius. Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 I was intrigued with the chatterfrog so I bought one. Made five casts and on the fifth retrieve it felt very strange. Got the bait back to shore and I only had the blade left. The jig was gone. Haven't purchased another one and don't really plan to. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 This year I caught several LMB and smallies that were close to my PBs on a black/blue Chatterbait, most of them at night time. In my opinion, a black/blue Chatterbait is the best lure for nightfishing in the summer. My brother caught his PB LMB (6 lbs even - pretty decent for CT) this past spring on a white/red Chatterbait. I think the Chatterbait brand is the best of that style of baits, with the Booyah a close second. I've tried the Gambler swimblades and they suck. For trailers I use the ones that come with the Booyahs and the ones that come with the Chatterbaits. I haven't had any problems with these baits falling apart, and I've used them a lot. Last spring when my brother was killing 'em with his white/red Chatterbait, I was still too stubborn to tie one on - they just look so stupid and the action underwater just looked to weird for me to feel comfortable using them, but after a couple of days of getting my arse whooped, I sucked it up and tried them out. I really think that Chatterbaits are amazing baits, but it does take a lot to get past their looks and gain some confidence in them. I have a feeling that anyone who says that Chatterbaits suck haven't given them a good shot. My favorite technique with them is very slow, just above the bottom, ticking them off of structure while giving light twitches and kind of pulsating it. I've also caught fish on these burning them as fast as they would work without popping out of the water. Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 I've caught a few bass with them, but nothing worth bragging about. I had the booyah boogie bait, but I lost it in a stick pile recently, and I don't think I will buy another unless I see it for a good price. Quote
SENKOSAM Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 Thanks Tony. I don't care about weird as long as it has a shot at catching fish part of the season. The vibration reminds me of Helin's Flat Fish, with its maximum side to side action. Could be a good spring time reaction bait in emergent weeds or over rocky flats. But I won't buy one until the price comes down or the bait's on sale. There's no reason they cost more than good spinnerbaits. Quote
Super User Marty Posted November 10, 2007 Super User Posted November 10, 2007 Chatterbaits and other baits in that category have produced in the two years I've fished them, for bass, pickerel and one channel cat. I don't know about the best trailer, all I've used is the style that comes with them, your basic spinnerbait trailer. However, I have no way of knowing if these lures are any better or worse than less-expensive spinnerbaits. Quote
Evan Pease Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I caught the bass in my avatar thing with a PurePoison . The rest were pretty small though. Quote
MattStrykul Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I bought one in like late feb. and never used it until like april. We were pre fishing for a tournament and I didn't feel like getting a spinnerbait out of my box, and my brother had a chatterbait out so I was like whatever. 3rd cast I caught a nice 2.5 pounder, and the next day at the tournament I caught all of our keepers, and a nice 4.2lber all on the radlures chatterbait. I really only use it at this one reservoir though, I have so much confidence with it there. Great lure, I usually let it sink, and just rip it as hard as I can all the way in. Quote
mike bat Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 i have a few ,,, olny thing i can say .... i cant keep the pike off them ... i live in wisconsin we have a ton of pike in our waters ,,,, i believe i could catch some bass if the pike would leave the bait alone long enough .... its weird but for some reason the pike love that thing ,,, the other lure they seem to love is the rattle traps .... :-? Super User FishTank Posted November 11, 2007 Super User Posted November 11, 2007 I used the Chatterbait alot last year but not much this year. Like most people I was excited when this bait became available and bought a couple. After fishing them, I found it was not all it was cracked up to be. I did catch fish with it but not any thing special or different from either a regular crankbait or spinner bait. Maybe when things feel slow and I am in the mood for something different I will tie one back on but until then I am going to stick with my old favorites. Quote
TrickyVT1887 Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I caught the bass in my avatar thing with a PurePoison . The rest were pretty small though. same here the one in my avatar was caught on a white pure poison 7lb 12oz 23 and 3/4" Quote

Loomis74 Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 caught a couple LMB on them in local ponds but nothing on the big water as of yet Quote
Lightninrod Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 They've worked for me in public waters but I haven't throw one in a while. That one(and others) hit it on the fall when yo-yoing in 9-10' of water. Dan Quote
bighed Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 The original chatterbait in red/black is my go to bait for fishing fairly shallow, muddy water. Works great in grass and stick ups, hard to snag on anything. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted November 13, 2007 Super User Posted November 13, 2007 Last year I did OK with a chatterbait in stained to dirty water. When the water cleared up the chatterbait bite pretty much died. This year, every place I fish was much clearer than last year, and the chatterbait bite was not there. Now that I think about it, the spinnerbait bite has not been there for me this year either. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 17, 2007 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 17, 2007 I have caught more than 20 on a gambler blue/black 3/8 with a kissimmee craw in light blue and green flake this year. All over 2 lbs, 5 over 5 lbs and one 8.57 that got me a big fish check. Most of these came in 5-6 ft of water flipping isolated patches of grass about the size of kitchen table. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 17, 2007 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 17, 2007 One more thing--- I have a lot of confidence in this bait so I fish it alot, it is my goto bait and there is always one on deck. If you pitch it and it hits the bottom without the rod getting snatched out of your hands then reel up and pitch again. This is not a finese bait, and you dont have to worry about hook sets, they will hook themselves. Quote
tkite16 Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 I've had two awesome chatterbait days, both doing the same thing. I got on them real good in a smal lake here in town that has a lot of boat docks. I dropped a regular jig and worm around the docks for about 4 hours one morning catching only a few small ones . Then I put on a chatterbait and swam it high in the water right by the docks and they were killing it. I caught 14 keepers in 2 hours with 4 over 3 1/2lbs each. Other day was very similar at Lake of the Ozarks me and a buddy caught a bunch doing the same thing . We got back to the ramp and a club was having its classic weigh-in and we would have won it by 4 pounds. WE had a 5lb two 4 lbers and two over 3. But that was it and Ive wasted alot of other days throwing it. Quote
