Yum Buzz frogs

Just wondering if any of you use them and whats your take?  What kind/size hook do you think is most affective? I was using a 3 mustad ultra pt wide, is there a better hook that doesn't tear up the bait as much?  I was using 20# fireline, what line do you use/suggest?

We used them alot this year and did great on them.  I have to say my most exciting fish this year were taken on them.  My biggest being a tad under 5# and ran about 22 inches (Late August fish).

Zoom makes a hook designed for the horny toad that will work pretty well. It has a sprial wire attached to the hook eye that allows you to screw the frog to the hook rather than slide the frog body up the hook shank. They are available in 3, 4 and 5/0 that I know of and probably more sizes as well. They are wide gap and available in black or red. I could not find a link on the BPS web site but I know they carry them. Maybe someone else can provide a link or recommend another hook.................Al

I heard they turn over a lot, i would stick with the Zoom Horny Toads

You almost have to use a belly-weighted hook to keep it from rolling over.

I'm not a fan of the buzz frogs as they turn over too much.  I switched to Stanly Ribbits and found that they almost always don't turn over and actually float if let to sit.  The action isn't as good as Mann's Hardnose but no bellweight is needed.  I would use a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG gammy hook for all my soft plastic frogging.

Ive found that the Yum Frogs dont turn over any more than any other brand of frog.  They all turn over on me, with or without the special frog hooks.  But using a weighted frog hook helps alot, acting like a keel.  I found Yums legs/feet have appealled to bass when Zooms havent.   Best one yet for me is Gambler's Cane Toad.

I have used the Zoom, actually I used the Zoom before the Yum and found that I liked the action of the Yum better.  Turnover... I think they both turn over, but does that really affect the bite??  I have never heard of the Gambler frog, I will have to check that one out.

ribbits are far and away my favorite.  they turn over less for me.  4-5/0 ewg hooks will work well but you will go through a lot of baits.  i like either the mustad or owner hooks with the keeper on them the best (look similar to the horny toad hooks but are better quality).  you can get a lot of life out of each toad like this.  i find that i dont need a belly weight with the ribbits.  i dont think that the frogs turning over hurt the action and getting bit but the hook is not in as good a position to strike and i think your hook up % is not as good if the frog is upside down.
