Shadcranker Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I bought some of the spider jigs (5" twin tail skrted grubs) a year or so ago, and I went to throw one last weekend, and the tails were basically stuck together as like they were folded up in the packet. I fished with one for an hour, and the tails never straightened out to their designed position. I assume it's the way they make their plastics, but it's frustrating to spend that much $ and have the bait that's out of shape. I assume the same problem exisit with their Creatures, Ika's, etc. Looks like I may go back to the Chompers or Gene Larew spider grubs. Never had this happen before with another manufacturer. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Sounds like the perfect time to test drive some *** Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Yep, happens to me all the time with GYCB, just somethin you gotta try and work around. I occasionally open a pack of my GYCB baits, to arrange them in different positions so they don't get molded into undesirable shapes. Its a pain in the ***, but its worth it. GYCB is a great bait, but this is a problem you have to deal with, I just work around it. Quote
Guest Wiimote_Angler Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Usually when I buy plastics I check to see if I can open the bag. This is so I can examine it closely, feel it for things such as weight and slickness, and listen if there is a certain way they advertise sound that doesn't require water (and smell or taste it ). Some companies have bags you can't open or its too juicy so I just try to feel it from the outside. I also make sure the bag seems to have it packed nicely rather than looking like they just poured in the bag and count if it has the right amount of plastics. I got some Kinami Palm Trees and they're fine. I don't know if they came like that or if the way you stored it caused them to be like that. Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 13, 2007 Super User Posted November 13, 2007 Dip them in very hot water for a few minutes then placed them on a flat surface to cool, the tails will be flat after the treatment. Quote
George Welcome Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Contact GYCB and they will make it good. I have to admit I am a bit confused because I fish this product all the time and have never witnessed this problem. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Did they have stuff piled on them or something? Warm water trick sounds like it would work. I would probably add some kind of oil based scent after washing them too so they don't get all stuck together again. Quote
Bass XL Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 this happens to me too...only with the swim senko's.....the tails will get bent out of shape. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 14, 2007 Super User Posted November 14, 2007 GYCB will probably replace them, but it must have EVERYTHING to do with how you have stored the baits. I have GYCB baits that are 7 or 8 years old that are EXACTLY new. My new (<5 yr old) baits are the same. Shelf life seems indefinite to me. I have bought a lot of Yamamoto baits over the years and none have been "bent". Quote

Guest avid Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 it's frustrating to have the bait that's out of shape. Have you tried this Quote
mike bat Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 i hear people have this problem ,,, with many different baits .... makes me think maybe some are letting the baits get too much sun or heat .... i have a ton of garry yammys baits and never had trouble ..... when fishing i always keep soft plastics sealed and outta direct sun and heat .... as much as possible .... im not saying you did it ,,, just tryin to figure out whats happining .... i would send them back tho .... gycb is a solid co. and im sure they will fix it up ..... Del from philly Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I know what you mean....its the way they are made.....but thats why they work so good too! WATCH OUT FOR THE FOLLOWING: ** tackle box that is too small- This will often make this problem happen more often ** Closing the bag- Make sure that you seel the bag with nothing in the way, and try and get ALL the air out...this will help ** dont buy the GY baits that come in the old packaging- the packaging means it older, and they arent as wide....they tend to bend the bait more than the big bags that the new ones come with ** Make sure the tackle box closes perfectly- sometimes it isnt obviouse, but things get stuck in the trap door, and bends your stuff ** Buy a tackle binder ** dont play with the baits, take them off the top when using them so you dont cross the baits in the packaging Quote
