Cajun1977 Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 long story short, just stick around here a while and read all you can from this website.....and never ever be afraid to throw anything anytime Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted November 14, 2007 Super User Posted November 14, 2007 I can tell you this.A whole lot of it just comes from experience and experimentation. Lakes are all different and so is the mood of the bass on a daily basis.Over time I have just made many mental notes on what works and when. Sometimes going against the grain and thinking outside the box can get ya a whole bunch of action too. That being said I for years have tried to read and absorb as much info from mags,tv shows, and online sites such as this. At this time I am not to sure how to break it down in a short easy way so I will be watching this post to see if any one else can.Theres a lot of pretty smart people on here. You all know who you are,and thanks for the info you provide. You see the banner right on the top of the screen ? Second box says: Fishing Articles Place your cursor on it and the box highlights, start by clicking on the links, read the articles and if you have a doubt feel free to ask. And if we don 't have an answer we invent it. ;D Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted November 15, 2007 Super User Posted November 15, 2007 Most of the fun in fishing is trying out new baits and techniques. There is no one lure or technique you can use to insure your catch. You just have to play around with everything and try to learn something everytime you venture out on the water. Suggestions above are great. Besides those, if you want to do yourself the biggest favor you can in fishing, when you start catching fish, change to something else you've been affraid to try. See if it doesn't even work better? At the very least it will build your confidence. And please -- do not become a "One Method Pete"! All some guys do is throw a Senko, or spinnerbait. Some won't go fishing unless they can flip or pitch. They will all fail at some point. And not even know why! The only truly successful fisherman is the one who is versatile and listens to the environment he/she is in at that given moment. The fisherman who is receptive to change will triumph. Quote

I don't claim to know, in fact, I don't even know if there is an answer. Lure selection is more of an art than a science. The obvious first factor is that you have to use a lure that is suitable for the cover and depth. But for a given set of conditions, there are many lures which might all be "correct" choices. Take, for example, fishing submerged weeds which come up to within two feet of the surface. You could use topwater, shallow crankbaits, spinnerbaits, soft plastics and probably other lures. You just need to put in time on the water, experiment, develop confidence in certain lures and use what you feel is best. You and your partner could come up with two separate answers, but chances are you could both be right. Quote
HookMaster Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Okay my friend this is how I learned. Online reaserch baby! There tons of websites out there that have great info just like this one. Check out the "tips and tactics" portion there is some really good info, have fun! Quote
Jake P Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 thanks for all the feedback guys, im gonna go put all of this newly acquired knowledge to mother nature tomarrow. Quote
JigNBig Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Like others said, if you just stick around for a while and read what everyone has to say about everything then you will qucikly find out when to throw what. A good place to start is Spinnerbait on a windy day, crankbait to any depth on a calm day, and worm either time. Crankbait=wood and rocks. Spinnerbait=Weeds. Worms=anywhere but wood unless you have the right gear. Quote
