HogHunter Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I know in many industries that there are pro models, fishing is no exception. My question is do pro actually use the gear that has their name on it? The reason I ask is often times pro model reels are on the lower or mid price range. In the industry i work in(skiing and snowboarding) there have been pro models for decades and the pros don't always use their own gear. If they do they use a beefed up version or use it just for marking events. So do you guys no about the big name tourney guys? Quote
G3 Fan Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I think it goes both ways and depends on the price point of the "signature" series. If you look at the Quantum PT series signature rods you will see the Quantum Pro's fishing them. But the BPS Quantum KVD rods and reels are consumer grade. I think Skeet Reese fishes with the Skeet Reese Lamiglass signature rod. And the Skeet Reese reel from Abu Garcia is a high end reel and I think Skeet uses them. So my $.02 would be the price point dictates if it is a pro grade signature series or if it is just a marketing ploy. Quote
HogHunter Posted September 30, 2008 Author Posted September 30, 2008 That is what I was guessing. I've just never been a fan of people putting their name on a product and not using it themselves. Quote
Super User Marty Posted September 30, 2008 Super User Posted September 30, 2008 I wonder how many of Roland Martin's tournament wins came on his Helicopter Lure????? : ;D Quote
Flywatersmallie Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Roland Martin reminds me a lot of this guy! Oh, I saw in the Wally World fishing section (looking for one of those $11 tourney scales, which I found) that those ridiculous rocket rods have crankbaits that shoot out of the tube now. I wanna see that clown use one on his show! I'd watch that one! Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted October 1, 2008 Super User Posted October 1, 2008 It's funny, if you have ever watched The Bass Pros there is a segment with KVD and he is using his Quantum signature combo in one shot and says so but the rest of the time its a Tour PT rod and energy... He does however use his new crankbait rod that quantum has developed, the one with the foam handle Quote
Joe Boss Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I wonder how many of Roland Martin's tournament wins came on his Helicopter Lure????? : ;D I saw Roland's show yesterday and he was using his signature BPS rod and Spro Auruka Shad lure in Florida for bass. Quote
bassdocktor Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I know I've seen Rick Clunn using his stuff. We've all at one time seen Boyd Duckett using those Carrot Stix but if they were his model I have no idea. I know in Bassmaster I've seen 1 or 2 using their stuff too, not just saying they were but actual pictures. Quote
