shawnmc Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 When I got back into fishing a few years ago I got my first baitcaster. It was a Daiwa Samarai, cheap but was great to learn on. With the Daiwa I experienced a few backlashes early on but have not got it dialed in. Last year I bought a used BPS Rick Clunn and have had trouble with backlashes and occasionly breaking the line in many places while casting. I have tried a few different settings but can't seem to stay clear of the line breaking or backlashes. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks Quote
shawnmc Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 Been usind either 10 or 12lb Berkley Trilene XL. Works fine with my other reels. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 23, 2008 Super User Posted September 23, 2008 I suspect the line is breaking at weak spots that are created by backlash. They appear as kinks in the line. All line with these spots need to be cut and thrown away. 8-) Quote

FordNFishinLover Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 A possible other problem might be the rod. The line might be catching n it somewhere or if you have a rod guide missing it will cause breaks. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 23, 2008 Super User Posted September 23, 2008 Pull out enough line for a typical cast, and then another 10 feet or so. Then tape the spool and reel up the line. Now your back lash won't ruin the whole spool while you're learning. Quote
