Do you match your spinning and casting rods??

Do you fish with one brand or series of spinning rod and another one for casting or do you get the same in both??  I'm hunting for new rods and my thinking is telling me to get them both the same, even the same lengths and all, like all 6'6" or 7'0".  I might be being influenced by my brother in law though.  He has 7 rods, all of them 7'0" long, and all of them Shimano Compres.   :-/ What to do, what to do.....

I would say get a mix if you don't have 1 that you have used and loved.  That way you can know which you like better and even though you won't buy one immediately, in 6 months you can save another 70$ pretty easily if you put your mind to it.  Hope that doesn't offend you as I can't know your economic position, but I think it is obtainable by most.  I cut out buying tobacco for a month to upgrade the rod I could afford.

I typically fish with a Shimano Symetre 2500 on a 6'6" M/F Shimano Crucial and a Shimano Sahara 2500 on a 6'8" ML BPS Extreme "Woo Daves" dropshot rod. I've recently added a Sahara 4000 w/50 lb braid for frogs/toads and am having trouble deciding whether to get a 6'6" MH Compre or a 6'6" MH Extreme.

Rooster, you're not coming to the Atlanta are any time soon, are you? I've got a 7'0" MH BPS Extreme casting rod that I've only used 6 or 7 times that I need to get rid of.

Nah, won't be in Atlanta anytime soon.....or ever probably. ;D  Never been to Georgia, or even south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for that matter.  Any good fishing down there??

Rods don't have to come from the same family or series to make it work for you unless you want it. Rooster, be careful. Pretty soon you are going to start to accessorize and color coordinate like a woman does her clothes and shoes!  ;D

As for me, I am not absolutely loyal to only one brand. I pick what I want from those companies because I think what they offer suits me.

I think matching rods as one might a set of golf clubs might be apples and oranges.

My spinning and casting rods are different brands. I only have 2 casting rods and they are from All-Star and Northeast outfitters. I like to try different brands to compare them and find my favorites which right now are St. Croix and All-Star.

If I get a new baitcaster anytime soon I think I will buy a St. Croix to pair it with. I know the next spinning rod I buy will be an All-Star since their casting rod has seriously impressed me. So I might have some matching casting and spinning rods soon.

Dude, you're going to give yourself a complex about your rods!!!!

What works for one person may not work for another.  They make different length rods for a reason.  Longer rods cast further, more powerful hooksets for the same power rod (the sweep of the rod on the hookset covers a larger arc which takes up more line), etc.  Shorter rods typically provide better casting accuracy, are easier to "work", and don't feel as akward for short guys like me.  

Now as to the actual brands of rod, if you haven't used rods from multiple manufacturers then how will you know which one fits YOU the best?

I have Lightning Rods, GLoomis from GL2 to GLX, Shimano Clarus, BPS Bassmasters, GraphiteLeader, had a couple of Kistlers. I purchase what I like and don 't bother in having a mix of rod brands.

I replace all my rods and reels about every 5 -7 seasons.

And I buy in groups of 4 identical rod and reels.

They are all Shimano Claus, Curado,Spirex,Saros.

And I'm not going to any 12 step meeting.

This is what I'm trying to do now but I think I'm gonna get 5 combos in all.  Either 3 casters and 2 spinners, or 4 casters and one spinner.  Probaby the first setup though.  I fish a lot of stuff that I can use a spinning reel better for than the caster, at least I think so.  So only one spinner would put me having to cut and retie a lot.
