Lard_Bass Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 I have a buddy that is a fanatic of inline spinners for bass. I think of them as old school and have some Mepps, Rooster tails, CP Swing, and Joe's flies that I use for trout fishing. I was thinking of adding some larger versions to my bass tackle box. What do you guys use for bass (maker, size and color)? Quote
Davis Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 When I was a kid I used in-line spinners a lot. Caught some nice 15 + inchers on a black mepps with black furr. Since I came back to bass fishing this year I have only tied on a spinner a couple of times. Caught one this year on a spinner....the brand....Mepps. But it's a last case lure IMO. I love working plastics so much more. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted October 15, 2007 Super User Posted October 15, 2007 I chose other. I like to use my own. My "Patriot" Inline Spinner Quote
Lard_Bass Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 I chose other. I like to use my own. Those are some nice spinners. How much do they weigh? Quote
Cajun1977 Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 openly admitting to fishing inline spinners on a bass website is the first step in recovery ;D Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 15, 2007 Super User Posted October 15, 2007 I like to use Mepps. The black furry has to be my favorite. I also like to use the Sonic Roster Tails but they are getting hard to find. Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I like Mepps and Black Rooster Tails, but I only fish em when im targeting trout. Quote
skillet Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 No. 3 Mepps was the first bait I used for Bass fishing. Every now and then I'll still tie one on. I like the No.3 or 4 bucktail (sometimes white) with silver or bronze blade. Great bait with 2 exceptions: Will get hung on anything within 5 ft. ;D and if the fish has any real size to it, they will get into their gills way too often ... As Ever, skillet BTW seems to work better in ponds and small lakes... Quote
Super User Alpster Posted October 16, 2007 Super User Posted October 16, 2007 "Snagless Sally" is the only in-line spinner I have ever used. I have tore em up with Sally a few times. Ronnie Quote
Super User islandbass Posted October 16, 2007 Super User Posted October 16, 2007 I chose other. I like to use my own. Those are some nice spinners. How much do they weigh? I've never weighed them but I would say the smaller ones are probably just over or about 1/2 oz. with the treble. They are heavy enough to toss a country mile with a bait caster. The bigger musky class are probably closer to or between 3/4 - 7/8 oz as a best guess. My wife's uncle is also old school and he schooled me with his rooster tails 3-1. He caught 3 bass for every one I caught! Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 16, 2007 Super User Posted October 16, 2007 I've used blue fox, panther martin, mepps and worden's...they all catch fish. Matter of fact i used it last weekend as a search bait. Quote
katahdin Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 when fishing the rivers here for smallies i have never seen a better inline than a kennebec lure company inline in gold/chartreuse. they are smmallie magnets! Quote
Super User Tin Posted November 10, 2007 Super User Posted November 10, 2007 Big Old Mepps Comet Minnow when the water is cold. Quote
slomoe Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Mepps 3 black fury. Should be Worden's though, cause thats my last name. ;D Quote
moby bass Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Mostly Mepps, I have a lot of them. I have a few of the larger Joe's Flies, which have also been successful. Don't care for the rooster tails, I have trouble with the blades spinning. I use them for testing possible snags in a new location. If I loose it, I don't care. Quote
S I G M A Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 i only use inlines for stripers and trout... they don't seem as effective for bass as other lures Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted November 10, 2007 Super User Posted November 10, 2007 i dont see why most people see inline spinners as not a bass bait. ive caught countless bass on my top secret inline spinner. ok i'll tell ya what it is. its a 3/16oz blue fox vibrax minnow spin in minnow color. this lure is absolutely beast!!!! ive actually caught a fish on all of the colors, but minnow and rainbow trout have been my best producers. the gold is very good also. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15446_100006002_100000000_100006000_100-6-2 Quote
sal669 Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I voted "Roostertail" because that's my first option, but I use other brands too (mainly Mepps,Panther Martin, Blue Fox...) Quote
Super User T-rig Posted November 11, 2007 Super User Posted November 11, 2007 none of them. x2. Spinnerbaits are way more fun! Quote
Matt Jungblut Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 panther martin are awesome but my new favoroite is the new termanator 1s they have at wally world Quote
fishingram24 Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I have been using a Snagless Sally for 30 years or more to catch bass all around the southeast but they seem to work best in the costal rivers that I love to fish. Caught many thousands of bass on them through the years. Quote
