MichiganFisherman Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 What do you think? I need a new one but, it's not high on the priority list so it's gotta be kind of cheap, yet quality. Quote

Bassyak Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I would have to say Shimano Clarus too, though they list for $59 I think. But I know of several places where you can find them for less than $50 on clearance. Quote
snapper G Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 My favorite rod for under $50 is my Shimano Convergence. x2 x3!! they also have them on sale right now at Cabelas for $39.99! Quote
MichBassMan Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 For a really nice rod, both light and sensitive in the $50 range don't overlook the gander mtn. rods. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted September 9, 2008 Super User Posted September 9, 2008 Click on ALL BassResource.com sponsors, click CABELA"S BARGIN CAVE, click FISHING, clic RODS, click CABELAS FISH EAGLE II , they have both the 6'6 " med/fast and MH fast in stock This is an $80 rod, they changed handels on this year SO LAST YEARS MODELS ARE BEING SOLD for 40 BUCKS, now that is one great rod under 50 bucks, and it helps the site out also! 8-) ps I own a few myself, so this is from experience Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 10, 2008 Super User Posted September 10, 2008 Muddy is right on the money. Look for a sale or clearance item. I was able to get my Kistlers for <$100 by looking for sales. You'll get a much better rod, even if it is last year's leftovers, than anything that normally retails for $50-100. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 10, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 10, 2008 I fish with Berkely Lighning Rods. 7 MH is a good all around rod. Quote

loomis spookwalker Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Try a All Star Select or a Shimano Convergence. I have used both and find them to be about the lightest and toughest in that price range. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted September 10, 2008 Super User Posted September 10, 2008 Abu Garcia Conolon available at Wal-mart. -tumnus co-sign a good rod all around. I just bought 3 of them from wally world at 12 bucks each for the giveaway stockpile. Good 12 rod, they are a bit heavy a but good entry level rod Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted September 10, 2008 Super User Posted September 10, 2008 My pick goes to the Shimano Convergence. I've had a few (and still use one sometimes) and I think they are great rods for the money. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I don't know about best rod but I've had a Shakesphere Excursion for a few years now. They sell at Wallyworld for around $13 so can be had quick and easy. It won't win the rod of the year award. Muddy's Cabelas and the guys who mention the Shimano Convergence have good advice as well. You'll have to add shipping and I'm not sure how much rod shipping generaly costs. Quote
