Kistler vs. Powell

Well i've narrowed it down to these two brands.  Im am looking for a rod that is a little over 7 feet , med-heavy, or just heavy haven't decided yet. the heaviest line it will probably be spooled with is 20lbs. This rod will be used for jigs probably nothing heavier than 1oz. I want a light rod thats very sensitive that has a strong backbone for hard hooksets, and i want it to have a fairly fast tip for quick hook sets. Does anyone have any suggestions between kistler and powell.

I recommend Powell.  I have a 704C that I use as a frog rod (sometimes jigs and heavy T-rigs, too) and I love it.  I had two Kistler Magnesiums and just didn't like the feel and on the baitcast rod, the reel seat would not hold my reel firmly in place.   Besides, I had a poor experience with Kistler's customer service on a broken rod, and will never buy one of them again.

I only have experience in Kistler Magnesium in these heavier duty rods.  I have a Heavy Cover Fish Snatcher (yes, that is what Kistler calls it).  6'10" Heavy with a Fast tip.  I love it!!!!!!!!  I use 65 lb braid with this rod, and it performs flawlessly.  Very sensitive.  Plus, the tip is fast enough, that you can actually make the rattles work on a jig (if you use rattles) without ever moving the jig.  Lots of backbone, and can haul a fish out of about anything you can catch one in.  It does not kill you to fish with it for hours, and seems fairly well balanced.

So far, I own two Powells and plan on switching over to all Powells. They a AWESOME value now. My 765 is a great jig rod that is versatile. I can throw small swimbaits on it, I flip with it, I frog with it, and I jig with it. I even used it to toss my Tru Tungsten Bluegill while my Okuma was in for warranty. I have never tried or held a Kistler, so I am not going to say anything about them. But for Powells new price, they are extremely hard to beat.

Assuming you are comparing the Powell to the Magnesium TS...I'd take the Powell due balance and guides.  The Powell's balance very well, and have alconites...all for $139.

I have some Kistlers, Avids, All Stars, etc that I love, and I'm seriously considering adding a few 7' MH/fast rods.  After looking at the Powells, its hard to say no to them.  They are a fine rod - as fine as many more expensive gear.

Kistler!! I own a 7ft mh and 7ft h Kistler Magnesium. They are both great rods and have never gave me a minutes trouble. They are awesome jig rods. You just can't go wrong with Kistler!!
