Bobby Uhrig Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 As most of you probibly know I am very good friends with Roland Martin. When I first heard over a year ago that Roland Martin was designing a new line of fishing rods I said Please dont let them be some cheap piece of crap. . BUT BUT BUT BUT. I am the kind of guy that says let me see them and use them -if they are junk-they are going in the fireplace or given to some kids(no offense to the kids -LOL) I received the rods . Looked at all of the components-believe me I am a ST Croix guy to death. They had all Fuji Guides and seats. Nice wrap-blue attractive color like the new legend series ST Croix.I know color dosent mean squat. They are super light and sensitive -Unique handles with some wrap on them.Durable -Then I said how much- I said to myself if they think they are going to switch me or anyone else from my St Croix (now they are about $189 ea) and these were in the $149-$169 range -they are out of their minds. SO! I again asked how much- They were selling for $79 for the spinning and baitcasting and $94 for the 7'6" flipping stick. These rods can hang with any high dollar rod out there quality wise- For guys that are just starting out-It is the best deal going. Like I said if they were junk-I would say stay away from them -These are a great rods. Take a look at them at bass pro or other stores. They just came out. This is my honest opinion and I dont get paid for this- Like I said if they were junk you would see the smoke LOL Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted May 6, 2008 Super User Posted May 6, 2008 What country are they made in? Quote
Super User cart7t Posted May 6, 2008 Super User Posted May 6, 2008 No offense intended b-u-t, Roland is on your payroll so to speak. Roland has a little history of endorsing some real boners in the past. ie: The Helicopter lure and the latest, that kids bazooka fishing rod. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 6, 2008 Super User Posted May 6, 2008 The more stuff Roland tries to sell the more he reminds me of this guy. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted May 6, 2008 Super User Posted May 6, 2008 I'm always willing to give someone a chance. Bobby, can you provide us with more information. (i.e. Brand, Manufacturer, testing info, etc.) Quote

Someone bought my kid that rod(shes 4). We used it once and then I hid it...she forgot all about it. STUPID IDEA! Quote

Super User senile1 Posted May 6, 2008 Super User Posted May 6, 2008 I'm a bit wary of items advertised by Roland Martin also, but, due to curiosity and Bobby's remarks, I wanted to check these out. Quote

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! The bazooka! Ya gotta love that one... Quote
Infidel. Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I know that Roland has endorsed some dumb stuff but he has also endorsed some great stuff. The Blue Fox Big Bass spinner bait used to be my favorite spinner bait and I would still use it if I could find any. I use megastrike and Yamamoto products almost every time I go out. The guy's show may seem like a infomercial but if you don't like it, don't watch it. I wouldn't knock something just because he endorsed it. The guy could probably outfish 98% of us on this board. Super User South FLA Posted May 8, 2008 Super User Posted May 8, 2008 Roland Martin makes plenty of attempts at marketing products some are good and some are laughable. Hope his rod is the latter. Quote

Super User Tin Posted May 9, 2008 Super User Posted May 9, 2008 No disrespect to Roland, but I wouldnt buy any rod with his name on it. x3 Or anything with it on it for that matter. Quote
volpster31 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 What country are they made in? EXACTLY my question........im a hardcore st croix guy ,in part because they're american made. if rolands rods are made in china they should be cheaper than a lot of companies for just that reason Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I heard these rods have a built in speaker. When you reel in it plays Unos and Terminator infomercials. No disrespect intended sorry Roland. I guess this means I won't be on Roland's christmas list! Quote
tkite16 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Ugh ,the rocket rod was the worst. I got one for my nephew and it broke after about 10 casts . I spent the next hour with him holding the rod while I threw the little capsule that is supposed to shoot out into the lake. A guy and his son came up and asked if it was a rocket rod and he said "isnt that supposed to go out on it's own"? I guess he thought i couldnt figure out how to work it. I agree on the rod ,there are to many good rods made in the US to even consider it if its not made here. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 I think what it boils down to is self respect. Roland has none. He'd sell whatever you put in front of him, as long as he's getting a pay check out of it. And I mean, whatever you put in front of him. I think it's pathetic. Quote
Super User Tin Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 I think it's pathetic. Yes. And what is sad is that besides all of his accomplishments and great tournament success, he is looked at in a negative way by many because of indorsments of such garbage. He is just out there to make as much money as he can no matter what. So now, even if these rods were a great thing, since Roland's name is on them, most will think they are a joke. Quote

With all due respect to Roland, it does bleed a lot out of his creditable name. It IS pathetic really. He's not the only one though who I would never buy their endorsed products, but Roland certainly has been KING of the doozy in this respect. Good Lord.....some of the crap he's put his name on has been unfathomable. Quote
