Fishin Trucker Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 What is the proper knot to tie on a crankbait ? Quote
Sharkbite Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I use the palmar knot connected to a snap if I am doing alot of switching baits. If you use a spinning combo make sure you have on a barrel swivel to take out the spin in the line. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 The Palomar Knot is universal, but with treble hooks and bigger lures this is easier: http://206.210.94.83/assets/recommended_knots/pdf/fhf_knot_sixteen_twenty.pdf 8-) Quote
Fishin Trucker Posted September 7, 2008 Author Posted September 7, 2008 ok, thanks, so i don't need to tie a loop not for the lure to work correctly, i can snug the line right down onto the lure eye Quote
loomis spookwalker Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Take off the slit ring if there is one and use either the surgeons loop or the rapala knot . Quote
Super User Muddy Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 I use a plain snap, and tie a polymar to that. NO SWIVEL , just a plain snap. I t doesn't affect the lure and it makes it easier to change lures. Quote
skillet Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Most of the time I'll use the Palomar. On long baits like a Devil's Horse, a Trilene knot is easier. Passing that loop (Palomar) around the whole bait without using 3' ;Dof line is a real pain... As Ever, skillet Quote
bowtech_182 Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Hey Roadwarrior that looks an awful lot like a San Diego Jam that you posted. Quote
jax Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 What is the draw back to using a snap? I don't know anyone that uses them. The only thing I have ever heard is that they have a strong chance of bending out of shape and losing your lure. How true is this? What is wrong with tying a rapala knot onto a snap and then add that to the crank bait? Quote

Super User J Francho Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 Remove split ring and use a Palomar to Duolock snap. Quote
