Green Curado bearings

I have some old Curados that probably need a little help.  I am considering changing out the bearings because some of these reels are 10-12 years old.

What type and size would give me a little better cast?

Would I need to change the spool bearing also?

You'd be surprised, the bearings are probably perfectly fine...  It's more likely that there is old dirt,grease,debris in there, gunked up and affecting performance.  I'd send them the Reel Mech and let him do a cleaning and re-lube on them... if anything needs replacing, he'll let you know.  You can rest assured he'll do a quality job.

The cost of a couple sets of bearings that you might replace that only needed cleaning will cover his service costs.

x2.  Dave is the man!!! The way he spiffed up my Kmart special Round reel as he told me was incredible. This used to be my last resort back up reel and now it casts on par with my curados, even in tossing lighter weighted lures. 8-) Thanks, Reel Mech!

I have 3 of those old greenies that Reel Mech serviced for me last winter.  Still work great!!   Next time he see's them I am going to ask him to replace the spool support bearings with ABEC 5's.  I like these reels so much that I think some simple bearing upgrades and maybe even drag washer upgrades are probably money well spent on them.

All of my reels are maintained at least 4 times per year. I soak the bearings in naptha, dry them out then add 1 drop of Hot Sauce per bearing. I'm thinking maybe some new ones are in order and not sure what to buy. The BPS reel guy only has stock bearings. I would change to other types if they would increase the cast.

I have already done a drag job.  I took everything apart and buffed all surfaces with 600 and 1500 w/d paper and semi chrome polish, then replaced the drag washers.  I just want a bit more distance since I fish open water rock piles and would like to keep the boat quite deep and reach the 10-12' depth line.  Just 20 or 30 more feet would be a big difference in where I can keep the boat.

I am also having problems with my 3 -4 year old green curado. I put oil on and nothing changed. Who is reel mech? I need this problem fixed asap!

It 's the spool bearings you want to upgrade, the other ones have nothing to do with casting.

Raul I am talking about the little bearing on the spool shaft itself. I know the spool end bearings would need replacing I just don't know about that one. In fact I am not even sure what its little job is anyway.

If it has to be replaced, I'd have to invent a pin remover or have Bob at the Outlet take the pins out for me if I could catch him in a good mood.

There 's no bearing on the spool shaft If I remeber well ( don 't have the schematics at hand ) Jig Man, let me check it out but I 'm pretty shure there 's no bearing there.

Yes there is a bearing on the spool shaft.

I have the bearings needed in stock Drag & Bearing Upgrade Supplies with more on order.

The bearing behind the engagement pin on the spool shaft was the new SF setup on the older greenies they don't have a part number or reference number on any of the schematics..

The stock ABEC3 part number is BNT0124, the spool shaft end bearings stock number is BNT0194..

The ol SF or Calcutta set's were gray nylon bushings and couldn't be replaced with bearings.

I also have new bearings coming in that replace the old nylon bushings that are on the SF's and Calcutta's spool shafts

I also make the pin removal tools...

Yup sure looks like the shaft is bent.
