Pflueger Reels

Was looking at the Summit,Trion,and Surpeme and was wondering if anyone as any good or bad things to say about them?Any help would be great.

Trion Baitcaster, especially the Low Profile Narrow Spools are a fine reel, used to be all that I used. I have used Summit's that my friends used and I can not see the sense of spending that much more for what differences I could detect.

I picked up a Summit and Patriarch rather recently and must say I'm pretty impressed so far.  Small, lightweight reels...very smooth and good looking to boot.  Consmetically, the Summit had a couple small flaws in the finish when I received it (new) that I was somewhat disappointed about, and the Patriarch's finish is beautiful, but as soon as you touch it, it's covered with fingerprints.  

Operationally,no complaints, but when I was using the Summit to cast a buzzbait the other day, I noticed that it didn't seem as solid as my Curado 200DHSV when I would engage the spool while the buzzbait was still in the air.  I usually start reeling just before the bait hits the water so it's already moving forward when it lands, but I didn't like the way it felt on the Summit, so I stopped doing it.  I don't know there was anything wrong with doing that with that reel, but I like the way the Curado handled it better. :-?

Heybassyak: Is there a noticible difference in performance between the Summit and the Patriarch?

i use an asaro and trion for my shore fishing reels - baitcasting and spinning, respectively. they're solid and I've had no problems so far. they cast and feel great, as well as having a solid drag. the best thing is that they perform so well for being cheap. the asaro cost me about 120 and I think the trion setup(combo rod/reel) cost less than that at around 70.

My Dad has the Trion spinning reel and he loves it. The reel is smooth and casts far.

I have the President spinning reel and the Intensity Baitcaster (a Dick's exclusive aka a renamed Purist) Both are great reels and they have made me a Plueger fan. My only complaint on both of them is the paint jobs. Both reels have minor imperfections in the paint that over time I can see becoming chips.

i've owned both a president and a supreme spinning reel. the president has caught more fish than any other reel i own. it's a great reel for the price.

the supreme was a good reel but i didn't like it as much as my president. it just didn't feel as solid or well-built, maybe just because of it's light weight (8.8oz i think?). one problem i had with the reel was line twist. i put 3 different kinds of line on and every time i'd have to drag it behind my canoe to straighten out all the twist. might have just been mine, but i also noticed that when reeling in a slack line, the line doesn't spool properly. it would always lay heavy at the bottom of the spool and be thinner at the top.

just my .02 cents.

I have several president spinning reels and a president baitcaster and I love all of them. However, like Bassyak said about the summit, the president baitcaster doesn't feel nearly as solid as some of my more expensive reels. I have also began to have some minor problems with my thumb bar.

i hope you stopped the spool with your thumb before you started reeling!!!

i have a medalist spinning reel and president baitcast and trion narrow spool.i've had trion rounds in the past.all have been great reels with no problems.

all I can say is "tunnel vision", buddy.  ;D I make it a point to try something out if I feel the price is right and the features and construction seem solid. I couldn't be bothered to argue whether something is made by a company known for cheaper products or not. to each his own!

I got my reels serviced from them( Cleaned and lubed) with no problem

I never had a problem so I do not know what that is like WHICH SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE REELS I WAS USING

There phone answer line left a lot to be wanting for, better to email them.

They have a rock solid rep in these parts 8-)

Muddy....I haven't really noticed any major performance difference between the Summit and Patriarch, but I've only used them for a couple months and unfortunately with my job, I don't get to fish as much as I would like.  I'll let the forum know as I break them in.  The Patriarch does feel a little more solid than the Summit, maybe just because of the materials it's made out of or it may be something else I can't put my finger on yet.  But the handles are the same, they both have the clicking drag and spool tension knob, nice coloring...all around good reels.

Dodgeguy...I don't really need to stop the spool with my thumb, though I usually have it hovering above the spool, feathering the cast.  At the point that I engage the spool, the line has essentially stopped coming out and spool has just about stopped.  I certainly don't engage the spool while it's spinning freely.

Hello everyone,  no one has mentioned the Cetina.  I picked one up when they open the Foxboro BPS and love it.  Has anyone else used this model and if so what do you think?

Pfluegers reputation is rock solid around here, it does not have to be a Shimano to be a good reel.

all i know is i can cast as far if not farther than the guy next to me with a shimano or diawa for 1/2 the price.i haven't had an ounce of trouble from my pfluegers either.i sold all my round trions because i wanted to go to all low profile reels.they were as good as new after 5 years of use.

the summit  is a VERY nice reel, but has a one flaw: a very small spool.(at least the one i tested) im debating between a diawa(forgot he name, its the more expensive one with the twichin bar) or a president. im going to get the prez, its only a 100 bux and is a very nice deal for the money. check em out.
